This is a messy problem, but i think there’s lanes (lol) to make it less annoying. And I think the biggest one will be in the first 30-60 days of the next POTUS, and just putting on the protective gear and giving Iran global inclusion while saying “Trump’s lost war” a lot.

Honest question: What's the Democratic solution to this problem? I think they need one because this is likely going to be a problem until Trump's not in office, and nobody's going to be able to put the toothpaste back into the tube.

It’s one of the more piquant examples of folks letting their online resentments drive their political analysis and memory. All the while, the data is there and available about what happened. Trying to shove 2024 into a 2016-shaped hole, couldn’t be me.

I have a medium number of serious campaigns under my belt, and I feel p confident saying that folks in the stands put way more faith in polling than do most serious campaign folks. Polls are signs and portents, vaguely seen. But the “politics as entertainment” people treat them like reality shows.

I have an above average amount of cynicism about campaigns— I truly don’t hate campaign dirty work, I don’t even get upset about lies or bullshit, or the presence of Suckers in life. yeah, agreed. i also think some folks have some very valid despair and frustration at personal examples related to whatever ______ they are venting about, so I don't totally begrudge them. But despairing or frustrated perspectives aren't necessarily the best for addressing ______, whatever it is.

Some posters are completely unable to talk in a normal or generous manner about people who disagree with them. Some of these posters get good traction on the Posting Boards. This is not the same as "an effective role model to emulate, or someone who is more convincing off the boards"

the best HS teams in the country have multiple guys who will be in the NBA in a couple of years. they aren't normal high schools, they're basketball factories. but this literally doesn't matter. the value of women's sports isn't contingent on their performance vis a vis men.

I think one of the goofier things that the online does (progressive and moderate) is make people think their own vote is The Most Precious Thing They Have, and that politicians have to "earn it". Your federal vote is important, but it's roughly 25% of your political impact as a person.
