Spain’s largest research organization confronts its dark past

Spanish National Research Council, established under Francisco Franco’s dictatorship, has published the stories of some 500 researchers and support staff purged after civil war

Ideally, we should stop talking about IFs. The IFs are highly skewed, short-sighted metrics that judge popularity rather than individual paper quality and encourage predatory journal behaviour, citation inflation and bad research practice sfdora.org/read/

The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) recognizes the need to improve the ways in which the outputs of scholarly research are evaluated.

As Editor of @dev-journal.bsky.social I get asked "What are you doing about your impact factor?" In our new editorial we say: Ask not what Dev can do for the impact factor. Ask what you can do for Dev's IF The IF is about how we all cite, review & assess each other's work doi.org/10.1242/dev....

It was great to go work with Guy Tear again and publish our results together with theirs! Sequoia and its many functions during development. @biologiaub.bsky.social @geneticsub.bsky.social @craiubbiologia.bsky.social @ibub-ub.bsky.social

Happy to see this out @plosone.org together with the Tear lab at the Centre for Developmental Neurobiology, KCL. How different sequoia alleles affect axonal extension and guidance in diverse ways. New insights into how this TF modulates nervous system development journals.plos.org/plosone/arti...

This is a great article, but I would like to see stats by area/editor. Based on my experience and on that of many other colleagues working in #morphogenesis and #organogenesis, I do see many excellent papers that do not even get reviewed in @dev-journal.bsky.social and end up published elsewhere

What an adventure the last 2 weeks have been! We were selected for the semi-finals and made it to the final of #simfonies_ciencia! We didn't win the final, but we won much more than that. This competition gave us the opportunity to present our project twice in front of very varied audiences (1/2)

Congratulations to @sofiajaraujo.bsky.social and Laia de la Torre @araujolabub.bsky.social for being selected as finalists and winning a prize at the first Simfonies de Ciencia @comunicacioaccc.bsky.social for their #Musifyingproteins #SciArt #SciComm project!
