Guess which boots cost more and guess which boots I bought first? (Hint: the boots that are peeling were the cheap ones that started falling apart immediately so I had to buy the boots on the right which were more expensive, but are holding up.)
I don’t care about Sam Vimes! I’m saying that as a description of actual dilemmas faced by consumers, “boots theory” fails! I’m sure it works great in literary context but in real life you usually can’t save money by buying more expensive stuff. It’s a common idea but not often true.
Fast fashion didn’t nearly kill American fashion retail because people thought Forever 21 and Gap were equivalent quality, or they couldn’t be sure how big the difference was. That happened because people wanted to buy more clothes for less money and wear them fewer times and then get more new stuff
Oh noooooo. If you want to be kind to him tell him it's not his fault he got suckered by the AI industry, but take it from a professional editor (me), AI-"assisted" works are a death sentence in the marketplace right now, and authors who have hid it get found out and their careers ended.
Me: Why don't you just buy a bigger desk NPR: It's... that's not the point Me: It's only tiny because you bought a tiny one
Yes, being a US soldier or cop is likely to give someone PTSD from doing violence. It's actually fucked, tho, to prioritize empathy for the violence doers over empathy for their victims. And yet when it comes to the military we're not supposed to acknowledge their victims...
The author of this op-ed is a conservative columnist and writes exclusively about conservative politics, and once wrote an op-ed complaining that she's only seen as a conservative... So not the brightest bulb. www.yahoo.com/news/im-tire...

In mainstream media, women like me are portrayed through a singular lens: Our conservative beliefs. As such, we are easy to hate, mock and scorn.

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
It's something when liberals just fully admit that they think exactly like trump when they say that everyone who didn't vote the way they wanted deserve to suffer.
An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

So much gratitude to the organizers still pushing back on the concentration camp/warehouses.
if I ever taught film criticism lesson one would be “you being smarter than the movie is not interesting to anyone”
Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.

Nice to see this place really is turning into Facebook.
So apparently he doesn't realize that he's now discredited himself. Like he can't be trusted as a reliable source of information which is a bummer but that's just how it is.
Omg not Hank Green using AI for research and calling to his “bad habit” 💀😭🤡
This InfoWars caper is going a little too well. We need to staff up a bit. We're hiring a Social Media Lead, who will help make InfoWars the network of the future. We need someone who is extraordinarily online, has big ideas for how things break through in 2026, and can pull those ideas off quick.

I feel like we have to do this all the time... I don't care that RFK did drugs. Plenty of people have done drugs without dismantling decades of public trust in health and science. People with substance use disorder get stigmatized enough. H/t @epiren.bsky.social

How do we get class reductionists to get it into their heads that equality for women, POC, queer, disabled people ARE class struggle? What do they think we're doing out here? We want housing, and medicine, and food, and access to leisure. These aren't just nice-to-haves.
Prioritize class struggle first. The culture war follows. The civil rights movement would not succeed if it happened today. Billionaire-owned propaganda machines and algorithms that divide our society must be dealt with first. Our form of capitalism makes equality impossible from the jump.
The SAVE Act doesn't stop non-citizens from voting – it puts the ballot behind a paywall for Americans. If your name doesn't match your license, you lack a passport, or can't afford new documents, Republicans deem your vote invalid. The right to vote can’t come with barriers.
