I feel like you can tell nobody on here is reading Leguin and Butler as much as they say they are because there is a site-wide discourse about Terry Pratchett every few weeks instead

This is kind of how I feel about everything right now. Y'all won, stop crying! Random dudes at the barbershop still get on me about CRT! What kind of parallel universe do you have to live in to feel oppressed by CRT when the state you live in banned, by law, teaching cultural studies of any kind.

What I hate about COVID downplayers is… you won okay. In the aftermath of humanity coming together to develop the most crucial vaccines of our lifetime & collectively sacrificing to save lives, we are now less safe, less vaccinated & less empathetic than ever. You won ok. Lay down your swords.

After many years and many, many trips from California to NC and back, it's finally time to retire my 30 year old pick-up truck. Terrible day for Dr. SongsforHorses

I tangentially know a scholar who is like halfway through the typical pattern of a white person who is going to start pretending to be a different race and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to like say something or what

The success of the Odyssey movie tells us once thing: the people are ready for more ancient epic poetry adaptations. Famous directors please feel free to reach out as I am available to advise on a Secret History of the Mongols epic that will make a stupid, nuts amount of money. This is not a joke

The strongest argument to me for video games being art is that art is the purview of the humanities and I would like tech guys to have one less thing they can enjoy without having to engage with The Liberal Arts

Also, "ethnographer" is an underrated character type for a hero in a mystery or horror story. Curious person who has a vested reason to investigate but isn't some kind of cop, specialized training in talking to people and putting together stories, etc

Ok so in Candyman the main character is a folklore or cultural anthro grad student who is *co-writing* her dissertation on the urban legend with her friend who is in sociology. This is a rare case where the inaccurate movie version of academia is better than what we actually do
