#SMBE2026 There's so many of us not attending the social dinner, can someone come up with an anti-dinner alternative plan??😂😂

You knewwwwww I was not gonna leave #SMBE2026 without some of @petrathepostdoc.bsky.social 's #mozzmemes stickers!!!! They will be forever my spirit animal #slowandsortaupset
Really great job @soniacebc.bsky.social - congratulations on the work and your presentation - cool to see the fruits of research supported by @ergabiodiv.bsky.social & @biogeneurope.bsky.social ! A great ERGA Ambassador!
Yesterday I presented my work on Culex comparative genomics at #SMBE2026 🦟🦟 I am honored to have been selected to give a talk and grateful to @ergabiodiv.bsky.social for making my attendance possible thanks to a ERGA Ambassador Award!!
What a start! Wrapping up the first day of #SMBE26 with amazing talks covering Ai methods to detect ancient pathogens, museums metagenomics, and a great work on the Culex side with 4 new high-quality reference genomes!

I LOVED today's plenary talk by Prof. Mehmet Somel, on how Archaeology and ancient DNA analyses can work together to further understand ancient social organization. It was inspiring and refreshing, very far away from what I am used to reading and doing on the genetics/genomics field. #SMBE2026
@coolscootre.bsky.social just gave one of my favorite talks so far, on the evolution of chromosome rearrangements in E. coli. 37 years of ongoing evolution experiment!!! Well deserved Excellence Award 👏 #SMBE2026

Anyone here attending #smbe2026 ? On Monday, 29 June, I'll be presenting our work about genome and chemosensory gene families evolution in Culex species 🦟🧬 See you there?👀
So happy to see two friends in May 2026 GBE's cover ❤️ Congrats @lorenalf.bsky.social and Jorge!!
The cover of GBE's May 2026 issue features the study by @lorenalf.bsky.social et al. on the genomics of adaptation of lynx species. 🔗 academic.oup.com/gbe/issue/18/5 📷 Jorge Monje Martín (@jrgmonje) #genome #evolution
@lorenalf.bsky.social et al. scanned the genomes of the four extant species of lynx for recent selective sweeps, revealing species-specific signatures of ecological differentiation in their genomes, with minimal overlap. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/gbe/evag086 📷 Jorge Monje Martín #genome #evolution
Missed yesterday’s ERGA plenary? Maria José Ruiz López explored how genomics can shed light on vectorial capacity and insecticide resistance in Culex mosquitoes. Watch here: youtu.be/UOW0ma7ayeI #ERGA #Genomics #OneHealth
Happy our latest work is out! 🧬🦟 1️⃣ We present chromosome-level reference genomes for four Culex species present in the Mediterranean Basin 🦟Cx. laticinctus 🦟Cx. modestus 🦟Cx. perexiguus 🦟Cx. theileri They were generated as part of @ergabiodiv.bsky.social initiative's @biogeneurope.bsky.social
Ruiz-López et al. assemble reference sequences for four Culex species, offering crucial resources for exploring the genetic basis of vector competence for different pathogens, and help implement mosquito control efforts and disease prevention. 🔗 academic.oup.com/gbe/article/... #genome #evolution

Sometimes work looks like this and I LOVE IT! 🧬🦟
How does life evolve to adapt to modern cities? Out now in Science, my PhD work with @lindymcbr.bsky.social uncovers the ancient origin of the “London Underground mosquito” – one of the most iconic examples of urban adaptation. 🧵(1/n) @science.org www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.ady4515
Ancient origin of an urban underground mosquito
Understanding how life is adapting to urban environments represents an important challenge in evolutionary biology. In this work, we investigate a widely cited example of urban adaptation, Culex pipie...

➡️ Nice experience sharing some results about the alien plant Cotula coronopifolia in Europe at #ESEB2025 🌱🧬 ➡️ We found an unusual genetic structure shaped by selfing, introduction history and waterbirds 🦆 ➡️ Great discussions and valuable feedback to shape our next steps ✅ #PopulationGenomics
As a community, it’s wonderful to meet in person after so many online meetings! 📸 Here are some of the many #ERGA members at #ESEB2025. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hi and learn more about ERGA! #GenomesForBiodiversity
Full house in S30 to listen to Prof. Matthew Fitzpatrick. "Can ecological genomics predict population maladaptation under climate change? Lessons learned from 10 years of working with genomic offsets" #ESEB2025
😍Loved helping decorate Carrer Perill for #FestesdeGràcia and sharing how genetics 🧬 has helped conserve the Iberian lynx — a fantastic outreach event by @lcatmon.bsky.social, @eseb.bsky.social & @sesbe-org.bsky.social #ESEB2025 @ebdonana.bsky.social
