There are a lot of natural resources in Argentina.
😳 On August 6, Argentina will vote on a proposed Land Reform Law aiming to facilitate the purchase of rural land in Argentina by private investors. It seems they are preparing to “celebrate” with Peter Thiel. The bill was written by Sturzenegger who will appear at this Sept event with Thiel. 1/

Caravans were very real and often made a lot of sense for the migrants in them. They originated as a way to avoid cartel violence; when everyone is together in a caravan, you can’t be grabbed in a dark alley (or broad daylight) to be ransomed. Leaders could also assert pressure on Mexican officials.
Do we know about the caravans headed through Central America that always made news during US election season? Were they something besides real and proportional stories of an organic newsworthy development?

One agent “was first arrested for sexual assault of a child at the age of 13 and served time in the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections.” He was still hired by Border Patrol, working “there for nearly 20 years before being caught again for child molestation and sexual exploitation of minors.”
The agent who killed Johan Sebastián wasn't an outlier. A recent report by the Ohio Immigrant Alliance, found that of the 59 agents it identified, "85% percent had been charged with or convicted of sex offenses, with nearly two-thirds targeting children." ✍️ @tusk81.bsky.social

It’s that time of year again: here are some of the books I’ve enjoyed this summer. If you’ve read any good ones, let me know!
This is a good reminder that some "voluntary" departures people sign while detained by ICE are the product of coercion. The worst incidents I've heard of over the years involve agents grabbing a person's hands and forcing them to sign a piece of paper they can't read; it's a "voluntary" removal.
ICE agents threatened to beat up a Seattle small business owner, married to a citizen, with NO criminal record unless he signed a "voluntary" departure. I'm told there were cameras in the room. I'm demanding any video and that Eduardo be brought home immediately.
