does anyone know if this plan is 100% happening? I visited MSI 2 days ago & the back columnade/plaza/steps were fully blocked off by construction fencing. I could see construction equipment. Id been hoping that they would still revise plans in light of the backlash. But is it too late??

and even now there’s virtually no official information available regarding the art institute’s plans. if not for Preservation Chicago’s concerned reporting advocating against the demo of the stock exchange room (which was painstakingly preserved decades ago) I wouldn’t have known it was at risk!

At no point in the process of accepting, reviewing, or approving these proposals has there been any meaningful opportunity for members of the public to get involved in or be made aware of the discussions, their status or content. No concern as to whether chicagoans support the plans or condemn them.

I hate how opaque some of chicago’s most cherished & culturally significant institutions are. Art Institute is reportedly advancing plans that would demo the preserved stock exchange trading room. the MSI announced its already-approved (?!) reno project that will obstruct the beloved historic facade
