A landmark scientific workshop has identified 124 Important Shark and Ray Areas (ISRAs) across the European Atlantic, providing the first comprehensive map of critical habitats for threatened species such as Basking Shark, Tope, Spiny Dogfish, Sicklefin Devil Ray, and Angelshark.

The FSBI Medal Winners session starts with a talk from Colin Adams. Colin, previous President of the FSBI, has been awarded this year's Beverton Medal. Given the FSBI's focus on supporting ECRs, Colin draws on his wealth of experience, with a talk titled "Surviving a career in research" #FSBI2025

Our final medal award winner is Oliver Crimmen, of the Nautral History Museum (London), who was awarded this year's Le Cren Medal. With over 50 years of experience, some species are now present in the collection but extinct in the wild, which gives much pause for thought #FSBI2025
