The Lyon-Marseille Center of Excellence in Pediatric Oncology Research (PEDIACRIEX23) - focusing on developmental alterations of #ChildhoodCancers for better care and prevention #Medsky #Science

SouthROCK is all about sharing and mutualizing: expertise, samples, models, tools, data… you name it. This way all the participating teams can lift each other up 💪🏻

We brought fluorescence-labeled #DIPG cells from @crcl-research.bsky.social this week. This will allow us to switch some of our experiments from endpoint to longitudinal follow-up. Thanks to @southrock.bsky.social, we can now circulate all our samples from Lyon to Marseille and vice versa. So cool!

Yesterday, we held one of our regular steering committee meetings with all the clinicians and researchers in charge of our scientific program. The occasion to reflect on our first year of existence and prioritize our actions for year 2. Watch this space in 2025!

Today, all 3 centers of excellence in pediatric oncology research were invited by INCa to present what they have been up to during their first year of existence. We were delighted to showcase everything we have put in place, including our beloved #RockBands, ongoing and upcoming projects.

Last but not least, the 9th #RockBand is everything cancer metabolism. From defining metabolic vulnerabilities in pediatric cancers, the impact of metabolic inhibitors on developmental pathways and the slightly reverse impact of developmental alterations on cell metabolism. 1/2

Introducing our first Humanities & Social Sciences #RockBand, the Talking Minds. This band aims at improving the means of communication between patients & their families on one hand, and clinicians & scientists on the other. 1/2

Time to introduce our 5th #RockBand. An hommage to the legendary Doors, this 20-piece band will focus on critical Windows of susceptibility during pregnancy and early childhood, pre-disposition factors, the notion of clusters, the prediction of long-term sequelae & prevention 1/2

🚨 We are hiring! We are looking for motivated bioinformatician to join our team “Genomics and Development of Childhood Cancers" at Institut Curie, Paris, France. The interested candidates should apply by sending an email with their CV and motivation letter

Introducing our second #RockBand: the BEATLS, as in Brainstorming for the Elaboration of Ancillary and Translational Studies. As its acronym indicates this band is in charge of everything translational in our Center: turning fundamental discoveries into novel therapeutic opportunities.

Our center of excellence in pediatric oncology research gathers close to 250 clinicians, scientists and students working together to improve the care and prevention of #ChildhoodCancers. To structure ourselves, we have opted for the creation of 9 #RockBands with specific missions. #Medsky

Introducing our first #RockBand Entirely dedicated to studying the impact of adapted physical activity (APA) throughout life, the #RunningStones is made of pediatric oncologists and muscle biologists. Together they will define how APA can improve muscle health and treatment tolerance.

SouthROCK is all about collaborations. Collaborations between Lyon and Marseille, between clinicians and biologists, between disciplines… This is why we mostly had presentations from duos of scientists (and even trios and quatuors!) over the past two days. It was lots of fun and inspiring

Start of Day 2 of our annual seminar. Xavier Morelli and Carine Halfon-Domenech kick off the “Emerging projects” session with their collaboration on the evaluation of DCK inhibitors in pediatric acute lymphoblastic #leukemia. One of the 5 projects funded in our first round of research grants

For the next 2 days, the clinicians and scientists of #SouthROCK are all gathered in Marseille at the “Palais du Pharo” for our first annual seminar. We will discuss ongoing and upcoming collaborative projects that form the basis of our center of Excellence. Transdisciplinarity is key

This is it! We are officially and effectively launched !!! All the key pediatric oncologists, researchers and patient families gathered in Lyon for the official kick-off meeting of SouthROCK. So many great research projects will emerge in the coming months. We can’t wait to get cracking !!

Very excited to see our Research Center of Excellence in Pediatric Oncology being selected among the 3 Centers that will be created in France in 2024. We will focus on the developmental alterations of pediatric cancers in order to improve the care and prevention of childhood cancers.
