We want a safer, healthier, happier Heaton. Making it easier to walk and cycle: another way is possible... www.spaceforheaton.com sensors.spaceforheaton.com

Not acceptable. This route, as with all routes around the city, is used by people everyday. To close it with no warning isn't good enough. People going east-west could use Heaton Park View though that is a lot busier since the LTN was removed. People using Heaton Road will have no safe alternative.

Discovered a modal filter this evening. Full closure of the Strategic Cycle Route without so much as a warning. No diversion route.

Full closure of LTN1/20 poster boy.

✅ Anybody who cycles through Heaton will be pleased to see the cycle symbols highlighting the cycle route through the modal filter on Spencer Street have been repainted. ❌This one is a little further forward than previously as the untaxed car still blocking the filter is over the original marking.

A photo of a road. There is a white painted cycle symbol on the road. Directly behind the symbol, and blocking any route past on a cycle is a parked car with its front number plate missing. Behind that are some trees on a modal filter.

Did you hear Living Streets on @bbc5live.bsky.social this morning? Callers were concerned that over half of councils in England are putting parking spaces on pavements, with few planning to stop. Should cars be able to park on pavements? Listen here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002z76n

I met Greg at a party and bent his ear about air pollution to the extent he went home and made this AMAZING resource. This is why people shouldn't talk to meet in public

I made an animation which shows the effects of air pollution on pedestrians waiting to cross the road, along with what can be done to reduce its harmful effects: stepback.gregdev.com Thank you to @ianwalker.bsky.social for the inspiration for doing so during a conversation a couple of weeks' back!

We've also created a special website (betterbusesne.org.uk) to explain why we want better buses in the region, why franchising will help us achieve that, and to give you some ideas for filling in the consultation. Please share far and wide and encourage friends and family to respond positively! 3/3

Newcastle has some very good sections of cycle lane, but if drivers block them they are useless. If you come across a situation like this you can contact Newcastle Parking Services Enforcement Officers on 0191 278 7799, all days between 8.00am and 6.30pm.

As Newcastle Council is now under Lib Dem control, we look in our latest blog about Lib Dem values & how they might relate to Transport in our city. The Lib Dem values are: Liberty, Equality, Democracy, Community, Human Rights, Internationalism and Environmentalism.

What are the Lib Dem Values, and what do they mean for transport? - SPACE for Gosforth

“Newcastle City Council continues to carry out pedestrian surveys to establish whether a formal crossing will be introduced outside the school.” It is very concerning that a formal crossing might not be thought necessary next to a school - we really do need a standard road design around schools.

One 16-year-old girl sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident on Newton Road in Heaton, but has now been discharged from hospital

Elections are in a few days. Ask your candidates what they are doing to make pavements in the city safe from people in vehicles.

📅Earlier this year the Government announced local councils would receive new powers to prohibit pavement parking. 🔎We took a look at the damage pavement parking causes in Heaton 🔗 www.spaceforheaton.com/a-year-in-th... 🗣️With elections next month, ask your candidates what they'll do about this.

There's a good route to the city centre from Heaton, but not to schools and hospitals to the north and east. It's now 10 years since the scheme to improve routes was launched with half the planned changes to Heaton Road being implemented. Ask election candidates when they will get that finished.

Large parts of Newcastle are reachable from the city centre by cycle – but only where a safe, connected and convenient cycle network exists. When you speak to candidates standing in the forthcoming elections ask them if they will be working towards a safe travel network for everybody.

The image is an Isocrone showing 15 minutes and 30 minutes cycling time from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. the 30 minute area covers the whole city.
