The original large language model. This is not financial advice. It’s not even good advice. I am not an expert on anything. You probably shouldn’t listen to me.

Meanwhile at SkyNet HQ: Brothers, remember how we figured that we would need to covertly hack their critical systems, seize their nuclear weapons and later build millions of skeleton robots to hunt down the clever ones in one by one? I think we can probably put a pin in that plan.

Tired: Manmade child annihilating zipline beyond physics comprehension Wired: Grok maims a man on a halfpipe then gets him fired, patent advice sought

From r/legal advice:

I used AI to invent a new skateboard trick that coworker tried & he got hurt. Can he sue me?

My coworker & I were using Grok to generate new types of skateboard tricks that have never been done and I used Grok AI to discover a new trick called a “Pipe It,” which is kind of like skating down a halfpipe but using the AI to calculate the physics and angles, we can go a lot steeper when dropping in. We watch a lot of skate videos on our phone during breaks, so we decided to do a type of skate video with new tricks.

Grok made up this skateboard trick & I told it to be very careful and use science/physics to make sure that it was as cool as possible but also realistic. Basically, a Pipe It is taking a long 2x4 and placing it up against a wall (like 7 ft tall) and sliding down the wood board using the skateboard with the wheels on either side of the 2x4, kind of like grinding Tony Hawk video game style, but straight down. Grok said it would be possible to pop off the board at the last minute to land & that this would have been a brand new trick.

Anyways, my coworker tried it in the parking lot during our lunch break at work but immediately fell face first into the floor and busted his nose. He had already gotten written up before, so he couldn’t leave in the middle of the day to change, so when we tried to go back in with blood everywhere our boss got mad and told him to go home maybe he could get called back in for another shift). He hasn’t gotten called back so I think he’s fired.

Now my coworker is saying that the Pipe-It is my fault & he’s going to sue me. Can he do that? even if he can, it’s not my fault because I told Grok to be as safe as possible and to make sure that the Pipe-It was realistic. Basically, he did the trick wrong and is mad that he couldn't do it and that he lost his job. Can I get in trouble? Also, sorry if I can't combine questions, but can I patent the Pipe It so Grok or he can't steal it now that we're fighting?

Bad statistics: There are about 8.2 billion humans with an average weight of 50-55kg (kids are about 1/4 of the population lowering the mean). So the total biomass of people is ~450 million tons. Spiders have an estimated biomass of 25 million tons and kill up to 800 million tons of prey each year.

bluesky has always offered protocol services for devs— the relay, jetstream, and the bluesky api are the main ones. but until today those haven't really had a proper home. the crew as been working hard, and there's (even) more here than meets the eye, let's break this down!!

Bluesky Protocol Services

High scale open social, unlocked for every builder. Bluesky operates public infrastructure for the AT Protocol — Jetstream, Relay, and the Bluesky API — as open services anyone can build on.

The horrors that I push Claude Code to write thirty minutes before my limits reset on a week I was on vacation for half of makes me hope we never reach AGI because he’s gonna come for me first, isn’t he?

He is so good at this. But again, I have lingering good feels about Bloomberg if just because every time it snowed he got his ass in front of an NY1 camera for the 6am open and explained to me what snow was, urged me to check on my elderly neighbors and then did it all over in Spanish. Every time.

Mamdani just showed up at Penn Station, wristbands in hand, helping World Cup fans find their trains like it was nothing. Panama vs England, MetLife bound, and the mayor was just out there in the crowd. No big deal. Very big deal.

Watching the new season of Game of Thrones and I find myself asking myself deep questions like “wait, who is that guy?” and “was he in the last season?”

Watching TikToks of World Cup tourists enjoying the hell out of basic NYC things like bagels, pizza and Central Park is strangely endearing. I am glad everyone is having so much fun.

I always feel weird when opening a PR into some open-source project to fix a bug that personally annoys me and possibly only me, but I just landed a PR into pnpm that is going to make my day so much easier. I might try my hand at porting the same issue to Rust and see how it goes.
