Seems like everything is so damned hard for Reds ownership/front office. The trades on the table are small bore. But they seem so out-of-step with the league, afraid to make moves, risk averse. Content with mediocrity. Sigh.

The funny thing is, as much as people want Arraez's style of play to be what wins in October, he's .224/.246/.284 in 70 postseason PA and his teams are 1-5.

The Reds: An ownership family that refuses to adequately fund the team. Radically insular and out-of-date. A timid, mediocre (at best) front office stuck in the past in too many ways. A series of lousy trades and disastrous free agent signings. Result: a jumbled mess of a roster.
The Terry Francona bobblehead giveaway is pathetic. Guy hasn’t been with the club even two seasons and the team has a losing record under him. It would make more sense if he’s dressed in a Cleveland or Boston uniform. Truly embarrassing for the Reds.
Takes two sides for a deal, but the Reds will miss Ty Steve. The catching position will suffer a gigantic drop off. If Stevenson wanted 3-4 years, I'd have done that. If another catcher comes through the system in a couple seasons (no sure thing) *then* trade Stephenson.
I keep seeing JJ Bleday being mentioned as a find and part of the Reds future, but First 33 games 1.003 OPS Next 40 games: .669 OPS
The Reds have two ace-quality pitchers. Plus Elly and Sal. With the financial limits (self) imposed by the Castellini’s, they will *never* have a better core to build around. Trading any of that group for prospects is an admission they can’t and won’t build a championship team.
I hope the Reds don’t use the Chase Burns extension as a reason to trade Hunter Greene. And I wish that didn’t sound exactly like something they would do.

Breaking: Today the Reds front office finally addressed the outfield position, the long-standing disaster across the organization, by using several top draft picks on outfie … wait [checking ear piece] I’m being told, dammit, it’s zero, they selected *zero* outfielders.
Eugenio Suarez may hit a ball into the Ohio River in his next at bat (and I hope he does). But he’s been one of the worst players in baseball. Not competitive most at bats.
187 MLB players have at least 250 plate appearances. That's more than six batters per team. Taking contact quality and strikeouts into account, of batters with 250 PA, Eugenio Suarez has been the worst hitter in the sport.
251 Major League hitters have at least 200 plate appearances. TJ Friedl ranks next to last in run production (wRC+). When you adjust for contact quality (xwOBA) he’s dead last, by far.
I’ll confess I’m new to soccer. And I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle and competing fan bases of the World Cup. I respect the awesome talent and effort of the players. But the nonstop flopping and begging for calls ruins it for me.
It shouts volumes that the Reds might be the only professional sports organization pathetic enough to have a bobblehead night for a manager who has been with the team less than two seasons and who has a losing record.
All four Reds runs last inning were driven in by balls hit sharply to the pull side. Trevino’s HR was pulled right down the line. Brantley doesn’t mention any of that while glazing Suarez’s getting jammed with a fluke bloop hit. Relentless false narrative pushing by Cowboy.

Sal Stewart just homered on a 102.3-mph fastball. It's the 8th-fastest pitch hit for a home run in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).
The simple truth is the Reds will be a mediocre organization and (therefore) team as long as the Castellini family owns it.
I doubt the Castellini family will (ever) fire Nick Krall. But it won’t matter. They’ll replace him with someone else old school and who has been in the organization forever. Insularity has been a crippling problem since they bought the team. Next guy is probably Larkin - much worse.
The Reds roster is so contorted, with players out of position everywhere, it’s no wonder their defense ranks so low. Blame for that falls squarely on Nick Krall.
