Unfortunately, the phrase "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery" - Marley's echo of the words of National Hero Marcus Garvey - appears to have entered that world of clichés, oft-repeated by people who only half-understand its meaning. And we have to admit, if we do give it any thought, that there many examples of "mental slavery" in Jamaican society and public life to this day.
