I need to be better armed for face-to-face convos with transphobes. It’s much easier to be caught off guard IRL. I have some stock phrases saved up, but I don’t feel it’s enough. What reliable resources would help me keep the key facts in my head? My memory is awful at the best of times

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

Wait folks are now mad about The Odyssey movie? A 2700yo fantastical tale about mythical creatures and magic and the Gods and translated/ debated/ taught in 100 different ways? Y'all sit down. It's a damn movie. Things can be enjoyed. It will put students in our classes. It seems great!

The Cat Distribution System has spoken. It has been mutually and cordially agreed that the neighbours' cat is now officially our cat. She's a wriggly, bitey ball of chaos, which is probably why on her first night sleeping on the bed, I dreamt that she was in fact an albino cobra called Julio.

A very, very relaxed black and white cat lying on her back asleep, tummy exposed, legs akimbo.

Ever look at all the pointless objects in the world and get a kind of existential vertigo from the scale and futility of it all? Anyway, here are some flaars I picked from m'garden

'Rustic' hand-tied bouquet in pink, blue and lime green containing ferns, climbing green/white hydrangea and blue hydrangea macrophylla, perennial sweet peas (so no scent), alchemilla mollis, verbena bonariensis, cosmos and hedge woundwort

Top tip heatwave, kids: I have spent today slathered in Biofreeze to survive the heat, then suddenly remembered agua de colonia exists and is basically what I used to douse myself in when I lived on the continent. Far safer than accidentally getting menthol on your flaps and briefly seeing God.

Want to go out for a sea swim but I haven't been in the sea/rivers in years b/c it's turned into a game of 'log or not?'. Open-water swimmers: do you find those live maps genuinely reliable, or are they more of a rough guide alongside rainfall, tide, and local knowledge? I dunno whether to risk it.

About to start up new TikTok and IG accounts for our workshop, which frankly gives me the ick. I’m not about to start narrating my brilliant life b/c my life is just as shit as everyone else’s. I know we need FB to pull in the local crowd but how do I deter all the racist aunties from coming over?

There’s a loneliness in holding a truth that others never witness or refuse to see. Narcissistic abusers are very good at being charming. That doesn’t diminish the abuse you suffered, or make it untrue. Doing that work for yourself while helping someone else really brings home how common it is

Also: if you must walk your dog in a heatwave, do it first thing in the morning. The hottest part of the day is usually between 4-5 and it doesn't even really start to cool down properly until the small hours of the morning. Most heatstroke cases I have seen were late afternoon / early evening.

This reminds me: Basically every year when I was still in vet clinical practice someone would tell me that to help their dog in hot weather they shut them in the utility room with a fridge / freezer door open. Obviously refrigeration doesn’t work like that, so don’t do this please?

The reason the sunny weather makes me feel depressed is the same reason NYE used make me feel like shit-it's the idea that if you don't have the best time ever then what's the point of you? Like, fuck off, Debbie, I'm ginger, I'm staying out the sun cos I dont want a face like a leathery old handbag

Found a tiny friend amid the rubbish outside the workshop today. Had to move the rubbish but cobbled together a wee hoos and garden in advance of the heatwave. Meet my new pal, Persephone

A female common toad with beautiful green and russet markings and characteristic party skin.A makeshift toad habitat. Blue tarp beneath which is a brick and terracotta construction filled with moss, two plant pots with wood stacked between, and a shallow tray of water.

Legend has it Poundland adopted the laurel wreath as its logo because Scipio Africanus used to love to pop in to pick up some glitter pens and a multipack of Tangy Toms for the lads in between Punic Wars.

Gold laurel wreath on turquoise background. Poundland's quite inexplicable logo
