It's such a failing in science communication when public facing commentary on puberty blockers talks about a fall in bone density Z-scores. General audiences should not be expected to know what a Z-score means, the concept WILL be misunderstood and using the term at all is a failure.

When sharing research it is really useful to distinguish an undergraduate dissertation with other types of research, both in terms of the likely impact (commonly but not always reduced), the chances of mistakes from new researchers, and the significant importance of their supervisors. 1/2

So tired & drained and overwhelmed and unable to meet the vast scale of current challenges. Blurgh
School violence is now institutionalised & folded into legal compliance & 'safeguarding'. Individual teachers who provide 1-1 affirmation to a trans child cannot ameliorate the harm. A whole-of-school approach of refusal to follow harmful policy is needed. Few schools will have the stomach.
This breaks my heart 🥺😭. If I was one of those teachers I would have no choice but to resign immediately, or just say “fuck it” and continue affirming them regardless of the consequences. Trans kids deserve so much better than this 🩷🏳️⚧️. This will cost lives, all because of pointless bigotry.
Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2
I didn't know the NHS could do a report without centring culture war moral panics - huh
Remember Streeting's review into whether young people are being overdiagnosed with ADHD, autism, and mental health issues? Well, the interim report is out, and there's a reason the media are silent on it (spoiler: it proves what a lot of us have been saying all along)
I would really like to include this image from a trans rights protest in my book, Common Sense and Its Others, with an eye on the placard "Your Common Sense Isn't Our Common Sense," but I can find the original source to ask for permission (I've tried google image reverse search). Any ideas anyone?

Haven't yet read the research, but, scary sounding headline based on research by well known anti-trans extremist raises immediate red flags for me.
Researchers find trans men may miscarry at higher rates & issue “urgent” call for more research www.lgbtqnation.com/... #transgender #trans #LGBTQ #LGBTQIA 1/2
I haven't got the spoons to write about the details - it is far too upsetting. This cruel Labour Government has made the school's guidance even worse & published it while trans people are exhausted & distracted. It is now statutory guidance that schools are told to follow from 1st September.
I know everyone is already worn down by the other segregation policy - this one is arguably worse, given how it directly segregates children. This country is the worst. How can my kid go to school from September being segregated, humiliated and categorically unsafe?

🧵Yesterday government published a new version of KSCIE - its safeguarding guidance for English schools and colleges. In broad terms, it is trying to make every school and college adopt the practices of the most unsupportive schools (the schools supportive parents avoid!) tinyurl.com/43rmtczm
Do I know anyone here who is knowledgeable about Cronbach's alpha and such things and could answer a couple of simple questions I'm plodding with?
This is a really good article by @nancymk.bsky.social A lot of trans people know how bad it is for trans kids. A lot of cis people do not know. Please share this widely with the cis people in your life. The UK is making life impossible for trans children.
Trans+ children and their families are living with the cumulative impact of a government targeting them and making their lives less safe, says @nancymk.bsky.social
Important tactical advice for UK trans people. Next time you risk having your rights eliminated have you tried? Being Rupert Murdoch Editing a flagship newspaper Running a major BBC news show Being a billionnaire If you haven't done these ingenious tactics, well you just aren't trying.
ANOTHER frustrating take. TERFDOM in the UK didn't succeed cos 'they' were more successful than 'us' at 'reaching the people who matter'. They were more successful by BEING the people who matter. Bigotry positioned with entrenched power vs trans people holding no power.

people don't want to hear this, but it's why elite persuasion matters the uk becoming the most trans-exclusionary developed democracy in the world under a labour gov was not a bottom up thing—it was the other side reaching the people who matter www.liberalcurrents.com/the-end-of-t...
Spending the day NEEDING to be incredibly productive, and therefore being incredibly productive (cos I cannot let any balls drop right now), whilst a large part of me is wanting to just sit and cry in a corner. It's exhausting living through trans persecution right?
I know a bunch of trans kids who have benefitted from puberty blockers - not to 'explore identity', but a) to be confident about what type of puberty they wanted, & or b) to have longer to think about if they wanted to pursue fertility preservation before HRT.
Can anyone explain this to me, from a point of genuinely wanting to understand trans endocrinology better? If a trans woman, who has been on oestrogen for 20+ years, has oestrogen removed, does this differ from a menopausal cis woman who was on HRT stopping HRT? 1/2
For our cis allies, please understand that HRT is a medical need not a desire for many trans people. Our surgeons warn us never to stop taking it because we don’t produce our own hormones and would suffer medically dangerous complications. Yet, we are scared the NHS will remove our medication.
We really need to stop using the phrase “gender questioning”. By the time almost all trans or non-binary people get to the coming out stage, they are well beyond questioning. That ship sailed literally months or years ago. They know who they are. This includes children.
If this short video is not the CLEAREST EXAMPLE EVER of why trans people and allies shouldn't have been at that pride party than I don't know what to say to you. Token shot of a trans flag to gloss over a total absence of anything trans positive. Sickening
Gayest Parliament, just don't expect to be allowed to use the loos there if you're trans
So very many parallels between this dangerous 'normal birth' bullshit & the NHS approach to trans health. Misogyny, disrespect for bodily autonomy, pseudo-science semi-religious elevation of 'natural' processes, side-lining of lived experience, NHS quackery masquerading as feminism.
Also; I love how the BBC is like, "Well this well respected doctor thinks it's a problem, and this man who *lost his wife* to this knows it's a problem. But this midwife & crank who makes a living pushing 'normal' birth says it's fine, so who's to say?
National reviews of healthcare for trans children have been conducted by Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Japan, Holland and the state of Utah. None of them have concluded that gender-affirming healthcare should be banned. Cass is a total outlier.
@rikiwilchins.bsky.social 2026 Jun [Link in Dutch] After Sweden and Finland moved to restrict GAC, Dutch Parliament mandated a medical review. Dutch Health Council finds that hormones work, they improve mental health, and thus "there is no reason not to offer the treatments." [HT A. R.]
