"Indies will save us" No! YOU WILL SAVE INDIES! Go leave a review for that neat indie game you like, share the trailer for an upcoming game you're anticipating, tell your fave developer they did a good job, go tell people about such and such game that's just come out, you can make a difference!

When you (an editor or a critique partner or a classmate) comment on someone's writing, you can absolutely deal them a disabling injury if you're thoughtless about it. I'm not saying anyone should be dishonest or refrain from pointing out issues. I'm saying

that the way you say it matters. And, frankly, the way you say it says something about your attitudes and assumptions about writing or about who gets to write. And there's a thing where people assume that "honest" critique is necessarily harsh and mean.

Anyway, lots of writers have been fatally injured (writing-wise) by careless or malicious critiques. It's one of the dangers of workshops, just generally. Don't contribute to those if you can avoid it.

I may end up wording this inelegantly so apologies in advance. I don’t think I care about optical discs like blu rays as collectible physical media. What matters to me are the rights usually reserved for physical ownership, like being able to trade or to use things in perpetuity as you’d like.

I think it’s worth making the distinction because people who point out that they’ve gone diskless for convenience have a solid point. What we are in danger of really losing by are the rights usually associated with ownership of these products. We’re losing ownership for licenses.

underrated advice that i wish i'd figured out way earlier in my digital art life: if your drawing software lets you adjust your pen pressure so you can make more varied line weights without using a lot of pressure, DO IT!!! cut off the end of that pressure curve!!!

I want to add that you should drink either with food, or an electrolyte drink, as drinking only water can flush out electrolytes and make dehydration worse. Also drink even if not thirsty when in extreme heat, as certain medication, conditions and stress/anxiety can suppress your thirst.

Heat is forecast to build across the South and West early this week. During hot and humid weather, your body's ability to cool itself is challenged. Stay #WeatherReady by learning the symptoms of excessive heat exposure and the appropriate responses. weather.gov/safety/heat-illness

Heat Exhaustion vs Heat Stroke. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, and weakness. Act fast by moving to a cooler area, loosening clothing, sipping cool water. Seek medical help if symptoms don't improve. Heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke. Symptoms of heat stroke include confusion, dizzines, and becoming unconscious. Act fast by calling 911, moving the person to a cooler area, loosening clothing and removing extra layers, and cooling with water or ice. Heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not given.
