A ★★★½ review of Wishmaster (1997)

As far as B horror films go; this was pretty good! It keeps it to 90 minutes, has a bit of structure to it with good ol Chekhov's gun at the end. The kills are creative and the practical effects hold up (the CGI does not though). Plenty of horror icons have cameos in this film which is great. The Djinn is a really engaging movie monster that is so creepy and evil. I just really liked this movie. First time watching it since the 90s when I was like 12 Bluray is terrible this could use with a modern

A ★½ review of Desperate Measures (1998)

Michael Keaton and Brian Cox are wasted in this dull thriller that has an interesting premise that fails to keep you engaged. The Start feels rushed to get us to the main hospital location and the movie doesn't feel like it does much in its 100 minute runtime once we are there. Paper thin characters and it's pretty boring. First time watching it since i was a kid. It's a time waster but not a very good film. It wants to be a smart Silence of the lambs style thriller and just fails to get there. Michael Keaton is great

A ★★★ review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982)

This is not a particularly good movie but tonight I watched it as god intended: in 3D! I have to give it extra points for the creative kills and camera work that work really well with the 3D medium. So far this is our best Jason too - who is a fast moving brutish hulk. He also gets his trademark hockey mask! #horror

A ★★★½ review of Halloween II (1981)

While not as good as the first film this creates a good second half and seamlessly carries on the story. Everything feels the same just less good. They amp up the gore and violence (which was the style for Horror movies at the time). It works really well (and that is what I am scoring here) Side Note: for the first time I watched the TV cut tonight. The extended scenes giving the characters more talking time just made the movie longer not better. You needed them though because all the blood, gore and even some kills were removed from

A ★★★★ review of Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019)

A solid film with an interesting tale of friendship with a few cool story threads that eventually converge in a reimagining of some Hollywood history. I feel like if I was more familiar with 60s Hollywood I would rank it higher but I can't deny how much fun this film is and how well put together it feels. What's up with all the glory shots of feet though? that had to be a conscious decision right? Blu-ray was sharp and I mainly noticed the excellent colors. Audio was decent. A lot of care had been taken to make the old

A ★★★★ review of Late Night with the Devil (2023)

A fascinating film that has a slow build in a single-location movie with some b-roll and pictures to flesh out the wider narrative of the world. Things are very much in real time as we watch this talk show devolve into madness for a genuinely frightening climax that will stay with you #horror

A ★★★★★ review of Halloween (1978)

A masterful film with excellent pacing, a simple story and its tense as all hell. Its 91 minutes and goes by quite fast. It starts strong then dials back to let you ramp back up for the climax. Michael Myers is a frightening movie monster being mute, slow and faceless. I watched the TV cut tonight which I wouldn't say is better with the added scenes which do build out the lore for the Thorn timeline to better link it to Halloween 2, but sadly messes with the perfect pacing of the theatrical cut. The minor removals and changes throughout

A ★★★★ review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

I partly wish they stuck to an Anthology series if we would have gotten more one and done spooky stories like this. The mainline Michael Myers movies are awesome but this is really different with some science fiction, some gore, a bit of a mystery, I really love this movie. The music and tone have that classic Carpenter feel. It feels like one of his films without him in the directors chair (more so than the other Halloween movies after him). Minor quibble: I don't really understand the villain's motivation beyond "muahhahahahahaa EVIL" The writing is a bit insane with
