When the man (identified as Aaron Farinacci) was picked up the night of the fire, he had a butane lighter, waterproof matches, and a pack of cigarettes. He was also photographed and questioned in connection to another fire near Riverside State Park (very close to where this one began) last year.
The man whom police allege started the Old Trails Fire will appear in Spokane County Superior Court at 1:30pm. The affidavit of facts alleges that at least three witnesses saw this man along the BNSF tracks north of Airway Heights where the fire apparently originated.

A DNR fire investigator was able to locate the origin to w/in a 10 sq m area. The fire was started with nothing more than a butane lighter or match.
