An incredible Bob Larkin cover adorns the lone VAMPIRE TALES annual, published OTD in 1975. The series - like the other three Marvel B&W horror mags - had just been canceled; the solitary yearbook collected old material, including one story whose pages were initially printed out of order.

It was OTD 56 years ago I bought my second DC comic, UNEXPECTED #115, with this stunning Neal Adams cover. (My first was HOUSE OF MYSTERY #180.) Between these two issues, I knew I was thenceforth gonna buy every scary comic I could get my eager little fingers on. And I did.

AMERICAN BANDSTAND debuted on ABC OTD in 1957. Produced out of Philadelphia, it aired each weekday at 3pm for 90 minutes. Host Dick Clark became a national institution. The guests on the first telecast were Billy Williams and the Chordettes.

Richard Burton died of a hemorrhagic stroke at the age of 58 OTD in 1984, following years of hard living and alcohol abuse. The failure of the Academy to award him an Oscar should be a punishable crime.

For the anniversary of THE BLOB (released OTD in 1988), when I was in a movie poster store in Paris in 1994 I loved the film so much I had to buy a copy of the poster for LE BLOB. 😁
