The Reagan Administration committed genocide against all the gay men of my generation. Of all the gay men I called friends in the late 70s and early 80s, only two survived to see the 90s. Of the gay men in my high school class only one survived to our 50th reunion.
Happy birthday to David Wojnarowicz, groundbreaking artist, writer & activist, who raged raged raged against inequity and injustice at every turn. If he hadn’t died of AIDS, like so many leading lights of his generation, he would have been 72 years old today (thread)
Lovely news: The Butcher’s Daughter has been nominated for Newfoundland’s Killick Capital Fiction Award. Congrats to @corinneleighclark.bsky.social @sohopress.bsky.social and me 🖤
New review - a revenge heist that morphs into more, a ragtag of misfits, things are not simple.
A Complement of Scoundrels, by S. V. Lockwood (pub by @binderybooks.bsky.social) is a superb heist fantasy story that morphs into something bigger while still keeping a witty tone that suits it so well. A debut that I strongly recommend. Full thoughts: jamreads.com/reviews/a-co... 💙📚

#SFFChat Q4: I think it really depends on the book! My epic fantasy, The Wings of Ashtaroth, is light on humour but does have funny moments. There are some absurd bits tucked in there, along with some funny references (one's to the Nightmare VHS boardgame if anyone else remembers that 🤣). TETK
#SFFChat Q4: Share a funny line or snippet from your work OR answer how you approach humour in your own work?
#SFFChat Q2: I forgot to answer this one! Honestly, it depends on the execution more than anything! Tiernan's answer made me realize that I typically need a comedy to have a meaty story alongside the humour. Books that are gag after gag with nothing else going on tend not to work so well for me.
#SFFChat Q2: As a reader, do you have any favourite comedic approaches in SFF (e.g. satire, camp, serious books that nonetheless include humour, etc)? What about least favourite? (no specific authors--that's Q3!)
#SFFChat Q3: I have a lot! I really love what I've read from K. J. Parker, and Nicholas Eames and Tim Carter are both great.
#SFFChat Q3: FINALLY! Name a favourite comedic SFF author (or a regular SFF author whose humour you enjoy).
