Today is the day on which Ray Bradbury's “There Will Come Soft Rains” (pub'd 1950) takes place. It’s a short elegaic story about a smart home slowly dying after its owners are wiped out in a nuclear extinction event. Re-reading it now, I’m feeling softly sucker-punched by what it has to offer us.
You’re going to want to read the Women of the Weird West anthology, which features Indigenous authors (myself and Mathilda Zeller) and many other woc doing interesting things with the genre
Sahoni, Official Re(a)d Wolf@sahoni.bsky.social · 2d agoI think the abandonment of indigenous elements in peoples weird west setting because they don't want to confront the uncomfortable specter of colonialism and the hollywood indian, let alone get in the way of their fun, is cowardice and contributes to the erasure that often defines indigenous racism.
