I am putting my recording of Prynne’s Treatment in the Field, the last post in the thread, here for ease of access. As with the experience of listening to James Joyce read Finnegans Wake, so reading Prynne aloud & hearing his fantastic melodies is essential to engaging with his verse #poemsaloud
To conclude this thread-essay on JH Prynne here’s my attempt to convey how musical his work sounds when read aloud. My recording of his poem Treatment in the Field. I hope you enjoy it. And I hope you enjoy the essay and are encouraged to read this wonderful poet #poemsaloud #poetrycommunity 104/104
104 posts. c.4500 words…& a #poemsaloud recording Reaction to my thread on JH Prynne👇has been wonderful. Especial thanks to @rimaanabtawi.bsky.social @alexjenkinspoet.bsky.social @thewombwellrainbow.bsky.social You can find Prynne work at @brokensleepbooks.bsky.social & @bloodaxebooks.bsky.social
Years ago I enjoyed poems by JH Prynne. His death moved me to read him more systematically. A revelation. I encountered anew the rigour & abandon, brio & determined care, utter originality & deep rootedness in literary history that constitute a truly vocational poet. Here is my thread-essay 1/104
