The horrific shooting at an In-N-Out in Idaho comes during the same week we mark seven years since the El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, mass shootings — both carried out with assault weapons.
It’s been 14 years since a white supremacist entered a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and opened fire. He shot and killed six Sikh worshippers and wounded three other people. A seventh victim died from complications with his gunshot wounds years later.
Too many communities across America know this fear and trauma all too well. We demand that lawmakers put our safety first and stop cowering to the gun lobby. If they don’t work to protect us from gun violence, we can and will vote them out on November 3.
Seven years ago today, just hours after the El Paso mass shooting, a man with an assault weapon and a high-capacity magazine opened fire outside of a bar in the Oregon Historic District of Dayton, Ohio. In less than 40 seconds, nine people were shot and killed and 17 others were wounded.
A 15-year-old and three 17-year-olds were shot, along with five other people, at a banquet hall in North Carolina late last night. All are expected to survive, but their lives will forever be changed by this senseless act of gun violence. We should be able to celebrate without the threat of gunfire.

We know all too well what can happen when people who want to do harm get their hands on an assault weapon. The same assault-style rifles that have been used in the deadliest school shootings continue to be used to terrorize communities across the US — including this weekend in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Seven years ago, a white supremacist with an AK-47 and a high-capacity magazine opened fire inside a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. He drove over 600 miles to the border town to target Latinos. Twenty-three people were shot and killed, and 22 others were wounded, most of them Latino.
At least three people were killed and two were wounded after a gunman opened fire at an In-N-Out yesterday in Twin Falls, Idaho — sending scores of people from the nearby shopping center into chaos. The CEO of In-N-Out confirmed that an employee was among the victims.

The Seattle Center shooting is a stark reminder that the gun industry continues to fuel America’s gun violence crisis with deadly innovations. The shooting involved both a ghost gun assembled from a kit and a Glock pistol equipped with a machine gun conversion device, making it fully automatic.
One of the guns used in the mass shooting at a Seattle food festival this week was a DIY machine gun — a Glock pistol modified with a switch and equipped with a 40-round magazine.
Da'Jon and Kai should still be here 💔
Da’Jon Hayes-Burr, 15, and Jacob Freytes, 12, were both horrifically shot and killed over the weekend in Kentucky and New York. They both had their whole lives ahead of them; now their parents are planning their funerals.
Another young person has been stolen from us, leaving a community shaken and searching for answers about how this teen's friend accessed a gun. Secure storage saves lives. We depend on adults to protect us — not put us in harm’s way.

Two years ago, the family of Victoria Lee, a 25-year-old woman with bipolar disorder, called 911 as she experienced a mental health crisis. They begged for only an ambulance to transport Victoria to a hospital. Instead, police officers responded, broke down the door, and shot and killed her.

Over the past decade, the progress the gun safety movement has made is nothing short of extraordinary — I’ve seen it myself. I’ve had so many conversations with people who may not share my political views or even agree with the work of our organization.
