Glad to see I'm not the only one who was shocked to see #onlyconnect putting its weight behind this rubbish. I know the question was about things people do for luck and they do actually do this. Trouble is it damages the statue, blocks the pavement and isn't even a long-standing tradition.

Increasingly, Soylent Green serves as one of the best metaphors for AI -- it's taking all that we are, as people, chumming it up, and feeding the slurry back to us. We're told that we need it, it's nutritious, it'll save the world, even as it damns it and us.

It's so exciting being a freelancer in the arts & ents industry (one of the UK's biggest industries) bc about once a month the gvt have a new proposal to kick you in the head & you have to fill in a dry consultation form explaining why kicking you in the head would be bad for business, not good

It's not too late to make Trump the star of a Truman-style show in which he spends his working days in a fake Whitehouse surrounded by paid actors doing all the same unhinged things he does now, but just for the world's entertainment. He'd be happy, and everybody in the world would be *much* safer.

Spent a deeply enjoyable morning yesterday hanging out with @studioknotunknot.bsky.social and knitting some cellular automata! If you want to get better at machine knitting, or hooking a knitting machine up to a computer, Madeleine does fab training in both! 🧶🤖🌈
