"Widow's succession" is older than most of us — a lawmaker dies, a spouse steps in, the seat stays warm. Here it's a sister. And not a distant one: after their parents died, Lindsey Graham became Darline's legal guardian and adopted her. My explainer here: www.nbcboston.com/video/news/p...

Lindsey Graham's sister sworn in to finish his Senate term

Political commentator Sue O’Connell says Darline Graham’s temporary ascent to her late brother’s Senate seat is an example of “a century-old practice called ‘widow’s succession.'”

Matt & I talk about the stunning developments in the Maine Senate race, now that Graham Platner is out, will his supporters stay home rather than vote for the Democrat who replaces Platner in the race?

First came the tax cuts. Now come the health coverage cuts. Half a million New Yorkers pushed off low-cost coverage, millions more projected to follow — one paperwork trap at a time. Did you know when it passed? www.tiktok.com/t/ZTSSkDT18/

Maude's been thinking a lot about what "temporary" means in Temporary Protected Status…you know, the TPS that Haitians and Syrians in the U.S. are at risk of losing. She'd like you to know what that word is actually doing in the regulation. 1/

The Roberts Court drew a fascinating line yesterday: expanded presidential power over the FTC, but drew a hard stop at the Federal Reserve. Plus the politics driving the Republican and Trump effort to diminish mail-in voting. I break it all down here: www.nbcboston.com/video/news/p...

The midterms are not background noise. Every House seat is on the ballot. About a third of the Senate is, too. Whether you want to defend what’s happening or defeat it, the answer is the same: pick a race and get involved. www.tiktok.com/t/ZTSJjCos1/

Yes, Lincoln was a Republican. That part is true. But party names don’t freeze politics in place. Lincoln’s Republican Party used power to expand freedom, citizenship, and voting rights. Donald Trump’s Republican Party is pushing rules that narrow access to the ballot. Same name. Opposite direction.

If Republicans lose the midterms, it's because Trump lost the pool guys—professional and amateur both. He's spent two terms proving he doesn't value expertise: diplomats, generals, epidemiologists. Now even the pool guys know.

John Sununu had the Senate seat. He left it. Now, 18 years later, he wants it back. This week on the @ Issue Midterms 2026 Podcast, Matt Prichard and I ask the former New Hampshire senator why now? Plus, a new segment, “Friends on Friends”, makes its debut. youtube.com/playlist?lis...
