People are not stupid. Sometimes (often) we do foolish and cruel things for power and we never seem to wholly learn from our mistakes, but we are astonishingly smart. There are a lot of factors that go into ignorance, many outside of anyone's control, but it's not due to a lack of potential.
Lift the burden where you are able, so that we can make it a little lighter for the next generation who will be tasked with it.
If you think about some of the great changes in the expansion of our understanding of humanity in the last centuries, almost all of them are (a) still an ongoing work in progress and (b) took us centuries to even get this far.
In light of Russia banning science from recording same-sex behavior in animals, let me be clear, this reactionary homophobic bullshit has no basis in reality and is purely old authoritarian assholes feeling insecure about their own gender, sexuality, religion, control and place in the modern world.

Fewer people are actually rigidly heterosexual with their desires. Rigid gay and straight folks exist but heterosexual rigidity is overestimated.

Just going to say here, I think I've said this before, a 'historically accurate' version of the Odyssey is not possible because the Odyssey does not take place in a historical setting - it takes place in a fantastical pastiche of four centuries, mixed in with gods and monsters.

I think it's a bit rich for the kinds of people who view every other culture through their most cartoonish stereotype, who care more about aesthetics than they ever have about substance, suddenly caring about the sanctity of Greek culture.
I find the need for historical adaptations to be rigidly accurate odd. It's really them clutching pearls at diversity but even if it weren't... I like it when the spirit of something is accurate, like howz as anachronistic as it is, The Knight's Tale felt like a irreverent medieval play.
I'm not joking about the prefrontal cortex thing. If they get to argue that men and women are defined by their biology then I get to argue that I'm just an ape with a freakishly big brain and good temperature regulation. It's amazing I made myself a coffee and did my laundry today, let alone taxes.

My fav tidbit about the Illiad and Odyssey is how they're surviving records of a much larger Epic. All we have of history is a puzzle that's lost most of its pieces. A lot of schools of knowledge are also young. Our modern concept of Archaeology and Paleontology was born in the 1800s, for example.
