Love books, dogs, and mountains. Searching for the intersection of complex systems research and community resilience in the face of both acute and chronic disasters.
Myths. Language. Division. Ask yourselves why? Who’s perpetuating & manipulating ALL of us. Those that want power. There is always good & evil. Always will be. But let’s remember the saying: The Power of the People is more Powerful than the People in Power. #KnowledgeIsPower #Pinks
Trump is every reactionary psychopathology laid bare. I once thought, back in the mists of 2015, that people would see this--see the reactionary psyche for what it is--& be repulsed. But lots of people see it & experience it as validation, as authenticity or honesty. "I share that psychopathology!"
Trump: "When they take something over, it's always dirty. The sidewalks are dirty. The people are -- I hate to say this -- not clean, okay? The curbs are loaded with you know what. The smell is terrible. I mean, I see it happening to cities. Blue cities. They're all blue."
Authoritarianism rarely becomes accepted overnight. When extraordinary actions become routine and democratic norms slowly erode, people may begin to see what was once unacceptable as normal. History shows why vigilance matters.
Nothing can ever undo the disgusting actions of this monster, but at least some justice has been served and he will never again be free to terrorize our communities.
Tax cuts for the wealthy. Environmental rollbacks. Corporate bailouts. Foreclosures for the rest. Public services gutted. Protests ignored. Silence from Congress. The cost of corruption isn’t abstract—it’s your air, your home, your future. #RepublicanCostOfCorruption

I’m reading There Is No Place for Us, by @brian-goldstone.bsky.social and one thing keeps hitting me over and over: Homelessness is rarely a single event. It’s a cascade. A cancer diagnosis. A lost job. Depression. A missed paycheck. A broken car. A wait for mental healthcare. An eviction. 🧵
This is a fun book, read it in a single sitting and can't wait to share it with my nieces. Highly recommended for anyone with kids, or who just enjoys a quirky story, and check out 'Bea Wolf' while you're at it.

may we remember speaker hortman every time a kid in Minnesota eats their free lunch. every time a trans person moves to mn for safety. when an undocumented person gets their driver’s license or a returning citizen gets to vote. when we have clean energy and electric school buses and warm homes.
One year ago today, Minnesota Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were senselessly murdered in an act of political violence. In their memory, we recommit ourselves to the values that Melissa and Mark exemplified: building a kinder, more just, and loving world.
Hoo boy, this is an amazing piece of scholarship that @samlmontano.bsky.social has done! Bottom line if FEMA Council report becomes law: you’re on your own, disaster survivors.
When's the best time to drop the 20,000 word analysis of the FEMA Review Council report you've been working on for weeks? I don't know but I am going with *checks notes* 9:00pm on a Friday night. Cheers, kids! www.disaster-ology.com/blog/femarev...

This bill is America Last. Copper ore will be mined from Minnesota, shipped to state-owned Chinese companies for smelting, and sold to the highest bidder on the global market. Republicans sold out the American people to benefit foreign corporate interests.
MINNESOTA: please call the DNR OFFICE now: 651-259-5555 tell them to end the lease to twin metals! Please donate to @bwca.bsky.social today!! www.friends-bwca.org/openwater/?e...
Republicans reminding us once again that they're easily bribed, amoral, thoughtless creatures as they vote to allow the start of another future supefund site in one of the greatest wilderness areas in our country. Absolutely disgusting.
THE SENATE IS VOTING ON THE BOUNDARY WATERS RIGHT NOW! Tonight, while most people are watching TV or putting their kids to bed, the U.S. Senate is taking a vote that could permanently end protections for one of the most beloved wilderness areas in America.
Keep calling!! Vote now scheduled for tomorrow morning (11am EST 4/16). Sorry if you saw my earlier post, tabled item was just procedural, HJR 140 is still very much alive and threatening our environment.
This is urgent!! The vote will happen this afternoon!!!! Call your senators and every senator NOW!! They need to vote NO on HJR 140 to save the boundary waters and protect our public lands!! Please share and call!!
