I attended the No Kings protest near where I live, then checked my local corporate media newspapers and network TV stations. The stories were terrible. Really did not capture the spirit of the event. So thank you to all the Journalers and Archivists out there. What you're doing is important!

Friends, it’s been a year since we published Survive the Tyrant! I started writing these reflections in December, and at that time it felt like our tone may have been too negative, too cautious. With ICE escalating, now it feels like our message of “first stay safe” was correct.

While writing notes on the anniversary of publishing our little zine, I started looking at which billionaires (and multi-millionaires) own which media properties, and it’s worse than I thought. I couldn’t find any one source where this is all laid out, so here it is. 🧵 1/43

Neoliberalism is designed so that individuals become so atomised that the only question in response to rising fascism is "what can I do?" & the subsequent answer is "nothing". But the moment you reach out to an org asking & answering "what can *we* do?" the impossibility of action is proven false.

@questauthority.bsky.social, sorry to intrude but could you please tell @kbspangler.com that when we wrote “No rights reserved / Public domain / CC0” and “This guide has no copyright protections” we waived copyright and she can look at our guide without worrying about legal mumble-blorp? This showed up in my inbox! I can’t look at it bc they gave me explicit permission to use it in the Headdesk Project (nirn) which now means I can *never* look at it thanks to legal mumble-blorp, but the idea sounds fascinating!

Goddammit, I really wanted that exit to be the end, and then I saw this news. We couldn't have done this without Proton. So for whoever needs to hear it, it is basically impossible to excise free speech anonymously on the internet right now. You need email to do anything, make a website, etc.

Hey free speech activists, FYI doing this anonymously was really hard. We couldn’t have done it without some real digital security expertise. One thing everyone can do to help is routinely use TOR, VPNs, and Signal so that’s just normal and they don’t get blocked so often.

Oh man how do all you authors, podcasters, and video presenters do it? We had this idea and said, "well, I guess we have to do it," but we aren't natural creative types. The anxiety of launching a thing into the world and hoping people like it is incredible! Much appreciation for you all.
