You are What you do When it counts.

I was in the mood to re-watch Bluey. With my wife in another room, as the intro played on an early episode, I hear her shout, "Is it new?!" She sounded so excited. No, it's not new. She teased me for watching a kid's show the first time I watched it. Later on, upset I watched one without her.

When I was a lot younger, like very early teens (at the oldest), I was out somewhere with my father and we were having a conversation about something I don't recall. What I do recall was he broke away from the conversation, almost mid-sentence, and, looking over my shoulder, said...

I don't follow Gail because I read comics. (I had to quit buying in '92, cold turkey, due the drain on the savings account.) I follow her because she trolls/trawls on the internet better than anybody. That, and she's got a heart of ~fucking~ gold. 💛🥹

Okay, I am going to tell a little story. It's one I have saved for the last couple years, almost nobody knows about it. But it lives in my heart. I don't know how others will feel about it, maybe something, maybe nothing. It's about the Uncanny X-Men. 1/

I don't really have an objection to the CEO saying Bluesky is open to all; it's kind of his job to do that. But as others have pointed out, the design of the site means it's harder for trolls/bots/chuds *and also* influencers/hypebeasts to get traction. The "bubble" here is actually normal humans.

If you're watching a Harrison Ford movie where he's in a fight or battle against a person or a group, and you think that maybe he's the bad guy, then ask yourself where you went wrong in life? Who hurt you? Who convinced you that you were "losing"? You might need more hugs and fewer salutes.

I destroyed thousands of dollars worth of Silver and Bronze Age Marvel comic books that belonged to this guy I know. Okay, the guy was my dad, and I was just a kid learning to read. But still… I feel like I was responsible for increasing the value of a lot of those comic books. 😉

Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?

If just one person could die, I could very likely resume buying my favourite apples that only come from across an international border. Is that too much to ask? One life for some Cosmic Crisp apples?

No, dog, you didn’t just get a random cheese treat. One of them had a pill in it. Sucker! (I only recently learned not to hide the meds in the last treat, but one of the middle ones. As long as the dog can see there are more coming, they go straight down the hatch.)

Watching old movies on TV that haven’t been remastered, my brain can’t help but count to seven each time I see the projectionist cue mark up in the corner. I’m waiting for the day where one of my kids — both out of high school — ask what they are.

My father grew up on the edge of a prairie city. He could go out and play as far as his father could hear him respond with a whistle to his whistle. As a result, my dad learned to whistle very loudly. I've heard that sound my entire life. It's a unique sound. 1/

I find it very weird when people talk to themselves. My brain just isn’t wired that way. Me, this morning, as I squash TWO spiders in the bathroom: “Fuck you… and fuck you.” I guess I was technically talking to them. RIP.

it's true that AI is wrong and looks like shit, but personally the most repellent part of it is that the people who use it of their own accord are doing it because they believe what rich people say and do what rich people tell them to do

I was talking to my son about football* and I had to dig up everything I could recall about the Chicago Bears and Buddy Ryan’s 4-6 Defence to make a point. Legendary. * Soccer. We were talking about the English Football League.
