Just landed back in Spain, took off at half time. No chance of hiding from the result and watching it at home, they announced the key moments along the way then played the national anthem repeatedly 😂🇪🇸
Exercise books are so temptingly inspectable. You can flick through & feel you’ve seen learning. But full pages, neat titles, coloured pens and polished paragraphs are, at best, proxies. The more beautiful a book is often the less evidence of learning it provides. open.substack.com/pub/daviddid...

The opportunity and ideas presented here are lovely. Not sure about how much I agree with taking away too many exam/GCSE courses as they lead to flexibility later in life and I believe each offer different skills rather than just knowledge retrieval, but I love the nano course ideas in this.

In #mathstoday I'm quite sad. After 5 years with a gorgeous class they had their final IGCSE Further maths exam today and apparently it was just so hard, way way harder than any past paper. They are utterly devastated, and so am I
Oversight of the school calendar isn't something any leader puts in their bio or talks about at conferences, but its impact shouldn't be underestimated and I've got a lot of satisfaction from trying to do a decent job of it. You certainly notice when it's not done well.
In #mathstoday my 12yo and I just did some estimation and volume to see how it was possible for 250,000,000 bees to fit in one truck. We're still debating how they would load them in (no, we don't want sensible answers, we prefer imagining lining them up and counting them in)

I'm giving this a go since everyone seems to be here now! I have taught Maths and Further for 8 years in a sixth form college. I'm looking to share ideas and resources with other Maths teachers.
And so half term is over, feeling both long enough and far too short at the same time. Thankfully, it's going to be raining this week, making it much easier to not mind being at work. Until I remember 'wet breaks' (shudder)
