Today is my the truth about life, the universe, and everything birthday. Here are some things—imperfect, partial, evolving—I have learned (I think):

At a panel and fearful that no matter what question I am asked I will answer I DON’T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS CAPS-PENS GAME I CAN’T WATCH RIGHT NOW THE END OF AN ERA I REMEMBER BACK IN 2009 WHEN—

okay so AI is absolutely cratering imminently and I need all of you to PROMISE me you won't take the high road, and will laugh and rub it in their faces as much as possible. I need you to laugh and go 'WE TOLD YOU SO, BITCH" at every opportunity, PLEASE be extremely mean and ruthless

My student, absolutely breathless with discovery at an 8:15am meeting: “It’s this book; I don’t know if you’ve heard of it. Ulysses, by James Joyce?” A rare instance of someone coming to a Wendy’s with a comment about hamburgers and not realizing the are, in fact, at a Wendy’s.

Yes!!! I cannot comprehend how all my students have set up location tracking & sharing with each other!!! I don’t have lo-jack on my HUSBAND nor he on me!!! I realized yesterday tho that many had their PARENTS insist on having location tracking on them as kids, which normalized it for them?

The big societal shift is that only people over 35 remember a childhood in which they weren't constantly surveilled. To people younger, adopting one more surveillance method in one of the last ostensibly private places must seem like no big deal; the expectation of privacy anywhere is a dinosaur

On this year’s long covid awareness day, I want more people to read and think about what the late Shafiqah Hudson said before it killed her. Because she was right, as usual, and also early, as usual. Perhaps too early for a lot of people to listen.

I'm so frightened and angry. I'm continuing to take notes because I want somebody to sue if I die. I was already fighting big shit.

I'm going to say, again, that when long COVID effects kill me - sooner than later - I need y'all to recognize and say LOUDLY what it was.
Long COVID is keeping my blood pressure at 230/128, in spite of taking an elaborate cocktail of meds.
Long COVID is shredding my kidneys.

I'm not going to be alone. And this won't be considered a massive crime against humanity until we're all gone.
Just tell them I fought and tried.

It's International Long COVID Awareness Day. I feel so many things. I mourn those we have lost. I mourn those of us who are bedbound or housebound and pushed from society. I mourn the lifeline research, funding, and services that have been cut by this administration.

I do not like this gen AI I do not like what it implies I do not want it in my art I do not think it makes you smart I do not want it in my games I do not like its goals and aims I do not want it in my books I do not like the way it looks I do not like it, I don't care I do not want it anywhere

Feeling very grateful about life, the universe, everything (even as I also recognize that life, the universe, everything is on fire). But hope is the thing with feathers! So thanks @ziusik.bsky.social for talking today about things that make it possible for it to fly. 💕💕💕

? for the hive mind: Do you know of a cool community arts center, open studio, third space kind of place? If so, can you shoot me a link? I know that's kind of vague: I'm open to looking at a variety of models in different-sized communities. I have the seed of an idea & want to research. Thanks!

I really want to have a nuanced conversation about how people can feel so deeply connected in their private lives (“we woke up at 3.30 to have breakfast with them”) and also so unaware of the dissonance that their public personas are making obvious (“we were so happy to hear from/laugh with Trump”).

Sometimes you just really capture what it means to try to remain joyfully engaged in fandom in this flaming dumpster fire of a world and today Mexico’s chaos gave me that opportunity

A screenshot of a text saying “Are these two men’s birthdays lol one week apart (Hudcon not the drug lords)”

Get into sports they said. It will be fun they said. The only saving grace at this point is that I’m societally positioned in such a way that it’s hard for them to drag me into sports betting by relentless, predatory capitalist advertising.

My spouse, who is watching the Olympics only at my urging, FUCKING ME UP with this read of pairs’ skating: “You need to rewind that. Did you see how beautiful it was?? The poetry they are making with their bodies? Can you imagine the intensity of that? The trust that it requires?” >>

What level of screen-tilt is appropriate to transcribe your notebook porn into an iPad while on a plane sitting next to a very nice and pleasant lady? Ideally it would also NOT make you look like a villain in an airplane-themed action film… Asking for a friend.

So as I joked with @ziusik.bsky.social my concert videos always look as I’m riding hard away from the Nazgûl because I don’t want to look through the camera or block people’s views, so I shoot blind from my chest, but everyone must see my amateur video of what you’ve likely already seen elsewhere >

So MyChem Day 1 in Mexico City: firstly, Pelle Almqvist of The Hives did an entire set IN SPANISH—songs in English, everything else* in Spanish, with Mexico-specific jokes. 1) god bless the Swedish education system and 2) they have acquired a fan for life.

A singer (Pelle Almqvist of The Hives) leans out over a crowd at a concert, wearing a suit with lit-up accents at the shoulders, sleeves, and pockets

alasse and I fighting the ETERNAL and ENDLESS FIGHT with the people who won’t sit down even though doors are five to six hours away. WHAT ARE YOU STANDING FOR??? The Queen is not coming to greet us.

A person sitting down, wearing a baseball cap. Behind her, many MyChem freaks (affectionate)

Uh. This friend just appeared? Just slunk up from between the seats. My Chem staff person and I partnering to hold them here until their human claims them. (I am highly allergic to cats and also REALLY LOVE THEM, which is a problem for me and me only.)

A beautiful gray cat sitting on an airplane seat, with a person’s hand curled around their body

One thing I always enjoy about going to MyChem shows is seeing how early you can identify your fellow freaks. Still in Charlotte but if the man next to me isn’t going where I am going I will eat my black parade hat.

Man I'm so goddamn sick of ai. "Wahhh you can't have a reasonable conversation about ai on here," yeah maybe be mad about the two year parade of scam artists and financial charlatans and environmental ruiners who have radicalized everyone against the spell check that agrees with you

So I somehow let my passport expire and I now find myself googling “how to enter [my own country] as a foreigner/flawed American” on this plane which is, let me tell you, an indignity. One I will suffer for Ray Toro! But an indignity nonetheless.
