10 years of game design, 7 years of business from marketing to product. I make MMOs, I paint miniatures, I DM for TTRPGs, and probably a few other things. 🇵🇷
We won’t be the same without Bel, but we’re still doing the thing.
We carry on youtu.be/zHZB90cCQCw
I haven’t been at ZOS for over a decade now but every word of this rings true. Even most of the specific examples are things I can remember fondly, and I could probably add several more.
Been a bit but this one is for the #ZOSFam
Xenogears. Still holds up, but I would love a glow up version.
I would like to know! 🤓👾
I am very happy to announce what I’ve been working on for the last while :)
It's official. GW3 is a thing - we are developing Guild Wars 3! buff.ly/w3tbqpd
My three year old is suddenly very into Pokemon thanks to Pokopia, and already understands that people have six. She’s picked her six and I’m mildly concerned about the obvious theming:
'hey what are you up to over there? wow thats pretty cool.'
Absolutely love this kind of design documentation, and it's very close to the model I use for both design and product feature documents. I do add two pieces to this model: Rationale (Why?) and Priority (which parts of this design are vital, and which can come later?), but same basic idea.
If we're doing game design doc discourse, I highly, highly recommend following this template from @kchironis.bsky.social
What's your Star Trek project only you would love? Star Trek: Galaxy, a procedurally generated open galaxy game inspired by Stellaris and Crusader Kings, except instead of a 4X you're following one customizable ship through its many iterations across the Trek timeline, FTL-style.
What is your Star Trek project that only you would love? A non-Starfleet ship-based series where the characters are activists and anarchists too radical for the centrist Federation. Think Greenpeace in space. No ranks, no uniforms. Screw your Prime Directive, those people need help, etc…
Grocery shopping in the early 00s with too little sleep and a Star Wars shirt, I make a comment about bread to a gorgeous woman who glances at my shirt and looks tired. She’s polite and nice but seems awkward, so I excuse myself which visibly surprises her. Later I realize it was Natalie Portman.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie Please Quote this with your most minor celebrity interaction
Had a newer associate game dev thank me today for taking them out to lunch right when they started. They said it helped them be more comfortable actually being a gamedev, because the impostor syndrome was hard. Realized I’d come full circle from when @harvey1966.bsky.social did the same for me.
Finished a project, which I don’t get to say often. Invincible Army, and I’m really pleased with this yellow. Total time: about 35 hours.
if you're tired of friendslop, that's not very hopecore of you, truly in your hate era, so not teeheepilled, should be smilemaxxing, have you ever heard of yay theory, don't be a genrecel, i love to play companionlikes, it's so sugoipunk
Thanks to @ass.golf I am now unable to meet anyone named Penelope without immediately thinking of pronouncing it to rhyme with "antelope", which I just sort of suppress. Today I interviewed someone who, as an intro, went "or you can say it like pen-ell-ohp if you like" and it very nearly broke me
Understanding a medium is vital to telling a good story. This story gets that.
dragon lady next to me at the second life rave was too close and her wings kept clipping through my player model. I didn't mind but she apologied each and every time it happened. chat was filled with hundreds of variations of "oop sowwie >_<!! xoxo" and "uaah! not again! orz" by the end of the night
Weird selection for me, but I’ll take it. openpsychometrics.org/tests/charac...
It really said I'm a type A romantic interest.
I got death threats for working on Elder Scrolls Online, over a year before it released.
I got death threats for saying I was looking forward to the Wonder Woman film 🙃
5 tongue-in-cheek game writing exercises that are a more realistic representation of what most game writers do (in my experience) than a branching dialog tree:

Gamedevs, post your first shipped game and your latest shipped game. (doing the first game I shipped professionally here)

Been processing grief over the suicide of my brother-in-law via minis painting, and have nearly finished this project. As I’ve read about them, Blood Angels have felt very apt. Rest in peace, Sam.
