pacifist but not passive. @sphrog.bsky.social's gender-irrelevant goblin prince. music, film, folklore, epilepsy. creating wonder and befuddlement in equal measure as a dapper owl-masked clown. AI "art" is a plague. don't be a dick.

Yesterday was my 10th name day 🎂 A decade of barristas seemingly tying themselves in knots to find novel and perplexing ways to mispronounce my legal name, even if I give them the two-letter version of it

If I'm honest I'm disappointed to see people who should know better dogpiling someone who has created untold amounts of good and then came out and said "oh damn, I fucked up" over something that didn't actually hurt anyone or anything. Leave. That. Shit. On. Twitter. Control your fucking id.

That video of the guy having an absolute meltdown because cleaning was used as a punishment when he was a kid, and now his living space is so trashed he is overwhelmed, and *pleading* for help - it made my heart ache in recognition, but so does all the compassion and kindness I'm seeing in response

Honestly I'm not really sure why The Odyssey managed to receive an R rating unless Nolan asked for one. It's got less blood than an average MCU movie. There might have been a lot of cussing to earn it, but I couldn't hear the dialogue over uhhhhh anything else in the film

I've been trying for weeks to hunt down the mega-pale foundation that Avatar's frontman uses because it looks better than clown white. Now I feel like an asshole because every product I like gets discontinued; I FINALLY figured out what he used, to discover it was formally discontinued a week ago

Pitching a merch line to a band that I've been drafting for no reason other than I'm weird and wondered enough about some things to realize that it was pretty neat on paper, actually, and I would pay gobs of money for it if I had the option Really doing this, screaming / crying / throwing up

As much marketing as Ghost did for Skeletá I'm honestly shocked at the utter lack of it for the movie they're showing in frigging IMAX theaters. Tickets have been on sale for over 13 hours now and almost all the theaters in the DC area have 2-4 seats sold for every showing for the whole 5 day run

We traveled to Glasgow this past February to see Avatar play the Barrowlands Ballroom. Next March, @sphrog.bsky.social and Ashes will be traveling to London to see them again - this time for a 10th anniversary performance of their concept album "Feathers & Flesh" in full at the Royal Albert Hall

A promotional poster for the band Avatar, performing Feathers & Flesh March 30, 2027 at the Royal Albert Hall.

The poster is in tones of muted white and orange over a black background. It depicts the RAH, beams of orange and white light emanating from within, and a bald eagle and an owl locked in aerial combat above. The album title is flanked by the silhouettes of the heads of an owl and an eagle.

I stumbled across something while working on Ashes The pedagogue who broke me was a student and colleague of a French clown pedagogue who was famous for being so cruel he triggered PTSD flashbacks in his students Idk why she only targeted ME, but there it is. It's an actual accepted technique >:(

I am, according to the world-renowned pedagogue who taught said class, not a clown, but a pretty mascot in an expensive costume who nobody can care about. I am not sure what to do with that. (Exhaustion won out half way through writing this follow-up)

We are a couple episodes into the latest season of Dimension 20, and as someone whose first TTRPG was Demon: The Fallen, watching a group of professional TTRPGers play Vampire: The Masquerade apparently without even passing knowledge of the World of Darkness is *wild* lmao

I have tornado OCD that I would not admit to my therapist. I've never seen a single frame more insane than this. -Tornado that just ate another tornado -The Dominator flying toward it at ~90mph -Idiot tornado-chasing in an IncEl Camino, reaching for a high-five from the speeding Dominator

Video of mud-covered tornado researcher Chris Riske preparing to plant a probe in the path of an oncoming tornado. The beetle-shaped Dominator 3, one of a fleet of highly-armored and instrument-covered vehicles piloted by Reed Timmer, known for driving into tornados, is speeding toward the funnel at his infamously reckless speeds. (Seen 2024 movie "Twisters"? The cowboy with the crazy truck was based on him.) Parked on the roadside behind the camera, taking up way too much of the road, is a Tesla Cybertruck, the driver of which is leaning out of the window and reaching for a high-five from the Dominator.

(In the video you do hear Reed yell something at the idiot, who then steps out of his cybertruck clutching his arm.)

You are a dog. The human who puts kibble in your bowl has cut your beautiful talons and insisted on wiping the inside of your ears once again. Question: Is it a reasonable response to these indignities to roll in bird shit? y/n

One of the most slapstick elements of being a beekeeper is people sending photos rhaosodizing about how nice they were to a "bee" and thinking "Friend, you were handling a physical manifestation of hatred on our plane and you are lucky as someone could possibly be" Beekeeper commentary in alt text.

A photo of a yellowjacket wasp sitting on a stick.

These are NOT honey bees.

Five easy visible differences:
1) they have prominent mandibles because they are carnivores
2) their segmentation is very distinct (hence the term "wasp waist")
3) their stripes are BRIGHT yellow instead of a sort of wheat color, and they have yellow legs instead of brown or black
4) their hind ends look like weapons, whereas honey bees are more rounded
5) yellow jackets are hairless, and honey bees look like they are wearing fluffy jackets

I would rather do a hive inspection of Africanized honey bees (ie "killer bees") without any protective gear than deal with yellowjackets.

Hornets, usually thought of as meaner than most wasps, will catch a single bee and fly away, returning as needed. They aren't really a threat to the colony. Yellowjackets, while smaller, will show up to a hive with a raiding party, kill all the guards, get into the hive, kill the queen, tear off the nurse bees' heads, kill all the defenseless brood, and then go home. They can't possibly eat tens of thousands of bees; they don't compete for food sources; all entomologists can figure is that it's fun for them.

Beekeepers generally don't care much about hornets because they're reasonable. Beekeepers DESPISE yellowjackets.

I graduated college ~15 years ago. I switched majors, so I attended for 5 years + 1 semester. I just did the math, and my 11 semesters there cost about the same as students paid for ONLY last year. This school doesn't even have a football team and they're charging 3 bedroom house prices for a BA

Bizarre feeling for the weight mgmt doc I started going to a few years ago because my PCOS was out of control to call me "damn near skeletal" and ask for reports from my therapist proving that I don't have an ED. My BMI is 24.7 "Overweight" starts at 25.1 Betrayed by my male Draenei bone structure

Since Mina the Hollower is trending, I'm just going to take a moment to remind people that Jake Kaufman stole $77k in 2016 from his NUREN Kickstarter that he never produced a single content update for Also Yacht Club Games deletes comments about him and NUREN so they know about it Happy Gaming!
