Cuts to budgets and services mean people are caring for longer and more intensively— at the expense of their own health, wellbeing and financial security. The NCOs are urging all political parties to make a clear commitment to supporting unpaid carers ahead of the 2026 election.

The minimum income guarantee is a way forward for this and more. The coming AI “revolution” will see many roles just disappear, the same as happened in the Industrial Revolution. Back then, there was widespread destitution, it took the state decades to catch up. The MIG is one way to counter that.
