During some chats at UKGE I was reminded that it's been a while since I've plugged my casting feed, so: did you know I made a feed that automatically collects (most) casting calls posted to bluesky? If not, consider this shameless plug successful! bsky.app/profile/tave...

#UKGE was absolutely amazing again thanks to all of you lovely people. I miss you all already. Technology, time, and internet speed sadly conspired against a megathread during the con, but once I’ve done a little recovering I’ll get right to picking through and editing the (oh god) 900 photos.

So I’ve been hibernating for a bit, what’s been going on? Oh that’s right - it’s UKGE time! Obligatory Birmingham, I am in you. Just like Dragonmeet I’m going to be dropping a megathread with photos of all of the cool stuff people have brought to Expo. Drop me a note if you want to be included.

*In a post-con haze looking up flights to Leeds* So uhh… I hear AireCon is pretty cool and not six months away, huh?

Goodbye to Dragonmeet, it was lovely seeing everyone again, I’m already looking forward to see many of you again in May! Some more photos will be dropping after I to my PC, but for now: safe travels home everyone!

#Dragonmeet I am in you! Or well, I was. I'm back at the hotel - having met a whole bunch of wonderful folks and seen a ton of cool stuff - so I can abuse the hotel wifi to share it with you all! Megathread incoming!

Hey folks! I'm going to be at Dragonmeet and I'll be trying my hand at Con Photography! If you're a vendor and want some (free!) promo photography, please reach out through tavernaut.tv/dragonmeet For some examples of photos taken at Main Quest Con:

Hey folks I am opening emergency commissions. My partners ebike was just stolen and they use it for work daily. I'll draw anything (Not hateful). My strengths are monsters, mice & maps. More examples below. Varied price points available. Please comment / message if you're interested.

Windows PowerToys is cool and all, but ye gods, Microsoft, what the fuck is this doing in your documentation? To add context: this was after they mentioned three perfectly fine ways of installing PowerToys and before mentioning three more after whatever the fuck this was.

An excerpt from Microsoft's documentation on installing Windows PowerToys. It reads:

Ask Copilot for help with command-line arguments

You can get AI assistance from Copilot to generate a winget command with the arguments you need. You can customize the prompt to generate a string per your requirements.

The following text shows an example prompt for Copilot:

Generate a `winget` command to install Microsoft PowerToys with arguments to install silently and log the output to a file at the following path: C:\temp\install.log

Copilot is powered by AI, so surprises and mistakes are possible. For more information, see Copilot FAQs.

In recognition of International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, I'd love to spend some time tomorrow learning about & sharing the work of indigenous people in the TTRPG space. 😍 Please introduce yourself below if this is you! Lets get more eyes on your work wherever you are in the world 🌐

Patient, sobbing: But Doctor, I AM Pagliacci! ChatGPT: Apologies. I didn't realise when recommending Pagliacci's epic show to cure your depression that you were the genius himself. I'm impressed! With regards to your initial question, I can recommend seeing the Great Clown Pagliacci.

To add to this: if at all possible when backing up, follow the 3-2-1 rule. For important data you want: - At least THREE copies - On at least TWO different types of media - At least ONE of which is off-site This can get expensive fast, especially with off-site storage, so triage what is important.

while we're on the subject: HEY CREATIVES. HAVE YOU BACKED UP YOUR PROJECT FILES TO 2 PHYSICAL REDUNDANT MEDIUMS LATELY. YOU REALLY SHOULD DO THAT /TODAY/. THE MOMENT YOU GET A CHANCE.

Also, a best practice of my own: Casting necessitates the collection of private info: emails, names, sometimes even stuff like information on someone's race, religion, medical status, or sexuality, if you ask people to self-identify to aid in casting diverse tables. Have a dang process, y'all.

An example of my Privacy Notification, white text on a black background with a green "I accept" button. It reads:

Privacy Notification
The data filled in this form will be collected for casting purposes. This data will only be retained as long as is necessary for casting and show running purposes unless you agree for it to be maintained indefinitely to aid with future casting calls.

To request what data is currently stored about you or request the removal of your data, please send an email to gdpr@tavernaut.tv

Under the green "I accept" button, a checkbox is added after which the text "Maintain my information until I withdraw consent to aid with future casting calls." is added.

Seeing as I'm going to be casting for AP stuff Soon™, a question for the #actualplay performers out here: What would you like to see more in casting calls? Similarly: What kind of things should AP's stop doing in casting forms? This post is brought to you by Tav-reworking-his-casting-forms.

If you're casting for #actualplay, there's a bunch of solid best practices in this thread for your casting forms. Something that stood out to me particularly: "if you must have a multipage form, provide a single-page alternative". I never realized this was an accessibility issue, good to know.

The last few weeks I've had a bunch of lovely chats with folks asking me how I set up the Casting Feed so they can set up feeds for projects of their own. I love doing that, so if you ever see something I made you think is cool and you want to steal it for your projects, my inbox is always open.

For those who use screen readers and the like, what format is best for tables in a document? Is it better to write them out as paragraphs formatted to look like tables or is it better to have it formatted as a table or is smth else better? I wanna make sure my plain text docs are really accessible

Wow, @drivethrurpg.com, excellent choice defending the most oppressed group of all... *checks notes* Space Nazis. Excellent choice, truly well done, no notes. Actually, now that I think about it, I might have some notes, among which: What the actual fuck is wrong with you?

Roll20, which owns DriveThruRPG, told Rebel Scum's designer (@9thlevelgames.bsky.social) that allowing their "hateful content" and political speech on its platform constituted a "slippery slope."

It's been a while since I talked about this last, but for the new folk who are interested in casting/being cast in TTRPG streams. Did you know I made a TTRPG casting feed that captures all casting calls (some hashtags required) on Bluesky?

Tav@tavernaut.tv · 2y ago

I don't currently have anything to promo because I've been spending my days renovating a house instead of TTRPG stuff lately, but I did make two feeds for Bluesky that are probably relevant to your interests if you follow me. Shameless selfpromo ahead:

For ✨reasons✨ definitely not related to my earlier post. I’m looking for queer AF TTRPGs that lend themselves well to being oneshot. Give me your suggestions, shameless self promo not just allowed, but whole heartedly encouraged. It’s rpg-a-thon o’ clock, folks.
