Tawny Code Cat 🖥️😺

I'm Tawny (she/they), a goofball catgirl going back in time to teach her past self useful math, programming, music, and other shenanigans. Streaming on twitch.tv/tawnycodecat ! pfp by @patooie.bsky.social . Fuck gen A.I.! Support people!

I don't know if I've said this publicly before, but I used to develop A.I. for work. However, I refused to work on LLMs, since, when you know how they work and look at them objectively, they're so obviously pointless and dangerous. They're designed to produce outputs that seem plausible,

To @hankgreen.bsky.social , I know you're going through it right now, but even before this latest revelation, I was disappointed that you've blindly trusted A.I. summaries on hankschannel. A.I. companies recklessly endanger people. They're not out there to help us. They're out there to own us.

I know there are silly examples about A.I. summaries giving people obviously wrong food advice, but they can also give plausible but wrong food advice that can make you sick, like this case I ran into the other day. Stay safe and never trust A.I. summaries!

Screenshot of a web search for "is coca cola gluten free?" on DuckDuckGo. The A.I. summary, titled "Search Assistant", incorrectly says "The Coca-Cola Company states that none of their products contain gluten, making them suitable for those with gluten intolerance or celiac disease." The official page on the matter from The Coca-Cola Company is the 3rd real search result.

PSA: A feature is "opt-out" if you're *in* by default and you have to "opt out" of it to disable it. A feature is "opt-in" if you're *out* by default, and you have to "opt in" to enable it. I've seen many people mix up opt-out and opt-in, probably due to out/in referring to the non-default state.

Humans have an amazing ability to learn from experiences of others. I don't need to have covid to know that I don't want it. I don't need to use fentanyl to know that I don't want it. I don't need to read Twilight to know that I don't want it. I don't need to use A.I. to know that I don't want it.

I really hope that Linux, and companies that develop software that could run on Linux, finally get their act together. I've tried to or had to use Linux off and on for 25 years, and there are still many basic things that unnecessarily require "fixing" via manually running unintuitive command lines.

I've been setting up Linux on my streaming computer (dual boot, since some things only work on Windows), and I haven't set things up for programming yet, but I do have my drawing tablet working, so maybe this is my push to finally getting into ArtFight... if I can get my OBS setup rebuilt again 😸

No, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that all doctors and nurses in a hospital operating room should be wearing a mask. Is it unreasonable to expect them to wash their hands after they use the washroom? *screams into the void* 😑

Finally finished implementing a generalization of the "ear clipping" triangulation algorithm on stream! I'll need to clean it up and debug it, and I really want to make a nice visualization of it, but it's a good first step 💜 We raided YukieVT, who's making a circuit board for a Yamaha keyboard! 🎵
