You have to stop reading the Atlantic and the New York Times. They exist to defend a corporate, neoliberal, war mongering democratic party bent on being slightly less evil than actual fascists. Start reading Current Affairs, Black Agenda Report, Hammer and Hope, and Dropsite News, among others.
I worked with many people for years to end the racism and exploitation in Missouri’s municipal courts. We made amazing progress. But everytime you think the battle was decisive, remember that Ferguson’s Stephanie Karr is still a prosecutor and former muni judge Wesley Bell is now a congressman.

This is a good moment to remind everyone just how abusive even police admit they are. It’s an open secret. Even the FBI found that 40% of responding cops reported that they committed physical abuse against their spouse in the last 6 months. That’s 10 times more than the general population.

She said he was abusive in their relationship,” and he asked her to lie for him. Exactly the kind of chud you’d expect to work for ICE.
I represent organizers who have been beaten, pepper sprayed, and assaulted by ICE. They still go out every day to help their people. We will sue, but some combo of a truth and reconciliation process along with massive cash reparations for the victims of these fascists has to be on the table.

And, ideally, it would leave so many of them broke that it actually becomes a deterrent. Being poor is truly all they care about not because they don’t care about prison.
To me, any Democrat who runs for President and doesn't begin by promising to fire everyone at ICE on week 1, cannot be taken seriously about anything else.

Last week I filed suit against Representative Wesley Bell’s security for assaulting constituents protesting genocide. 11 years ago, I sued Bell when he was a municipal court judge for a city running a debtors’ prison. Different job, same instinct.
Abolishing ICE is the minimum acceptable position. When people first realize the violence and lawlessness of cops like ICE, they often think reform is the right thing. More training, more resources, etc. Stop wasting your time. ICE can’t be reformed. If they exist, they will kill.

Wesley Bell is being sued over the brutality from his security at his in-person town hall. The ONLY town hall he’s held in person during his time as congressman. Hopefully, this ends the precedent being set by elected officials, where they use security to harm their constituents when they don’t like what they have to say, or deem the “disrespectful”.

You don’t hate the criminal legal system enough. I watched judges issue warrants to people arriving late to court, after taking 3 buses and 1.5 hours to go 20 miles. A muni court judge canceled court for a Cardinal playoff game, with no notice to those who took 3 buses to get there.

I spoke with Professor Willoughby-Herard in 2024 when she was facing these bogus charges, and now that they were thrown out UC Irvine is trying to punish her beyond the harassment she's already had to face fighting these charges www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024...
