This new paper provides economic evidence for Humboldt's ideal of uniting research and teaching. Students exposed to courses closer to the research frontier are more likely to complete their degrees, earn higher grades, attend graduate school, and achieve higher earnings later on.

Awesome work by @michaelwiebe.bsky.social, identifying coding errors and empirical "issues" in the prominent #Moretti #AER paper, which claimed that inventors moving to agglomerations become more productive - it turns out to be unsupported by the data. North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, held local elections today. Support for AfD up but at 15% well below party's national polling. And lower among the young: 5th place on 11% among under-25s, who also delivered a smaller swing towards the party than did older generations.
