things i have learned about making Rabbit's Foot Retrofit: - a videogame is a specific experience. - the first act a player does is give attention. like in a picture's composition, the game's design directs that attention in a certain way. - a player may learn rules, but will not remember facts.

Okay... I get it... I've only been writing for games for a little while but the ellipsis is so alluring... Why not have a little pause...? Trail off mysteriously... before changing thoughts... ...or even picking the thought back up. Try it sometime... but watch out..........!

are you compelled by the idea of tarot at the gaming table but haven't yet found a deck that speaks to you? Why not give Spindlewheel a try? Archetypal cards with poetic prompts will indulge your bleakest instincts and surprise you with their juxtapositions.

Spindlewheel RPG

Rabbit's Foot Retrofit is a point-and-click game about running a cyberware repair shop: chat with clients, fix their gear, argue with their insurance, and change the world one imperfect choice at a time. This thread is for tracking its development.

a sign reading "Rabbit's Foot Retrofit & Repair" with a sprinting stylized rabbit which has a cybernode on its back and a running blade on its nearest hind leg.

Is there a play oracle you’d recommend with - cards with text on them - somewhat accessible vocab - flexibility in use (i.e. not cards with rules text on them or too narrow a scope, so no Dialect/TQY) It’d need to be easy to pick up without prior knowledge (no tarot). Any tone or theme is fine.

i love you hand limits. i love you irreplicable miracles. i love you sub-optimal moves. i love you end of the rope actions. i love you imperfect tools. i love you bad cards. i love you characterization arising from doing the best you can with what you have

I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing Spindlewheel, and Sasha is wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to look at both sides of each card for inspiration in terms of the communal writing of the story. Looking forward to picking this one up in the near future!

And that's a wrap! Huge thanks to @22to22.bsky.social for showing off Spindlewheel to @markdc.bsky.social and @twenty20sight.com this evening! That was a really cool session! Before I continue, here's where you can find the game: www.teacabbage.com/spindlewheel

Spindlewheel was a great time, starting with the minigame Detective, which saw us creating an amazing rollercoaster of a crime drama. Also, the worldbuilding potential for those who want a creative boost in designing their next world or even next NPC makes this a great pickup for GMs of all types!
