They really need to get their talking points straight. I thought universal basic income (aka social security with no age restrictions) is what OpenAI had been pushing as the solution to AI driven job loss, but apparently they just want everyone to starve in the streets.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

Whenever I'm asked for examples of positive things AI has done for humanity I *always* bring up the Alphafold projects, and other from these teams. Google should have put these people in charge of their AI programs. I can't believe they actually laid them off.

Little Free Pantry update: It’s been 9 months since I flipped from books to food. Never expected to go on this long. Been wondering if I should maybe change back. But I found a hand written note yesterday, “Thank you. You’ve kept me fed during some hard times.” Ok then, let’s keep going.

I donate to candidates, not to parties, because right now none of the parties represent me (and they are really bad at spending the money people do give them).

Worth remembering that Talarico raised so much money he just gave some away to other Texas candidates and Mamdani raised so much money during the primary that he told people to donate to Adrienne Adams. People aren't giving up on Ds. They just don't like the DNC. The DNC should think about that!

OpenAI has confirmed that sometimes GPT 5.6 could make "an honest mistake" and delete your home directory. It's recommended to enable sandboxing protections including auto review to protect against this problem while OpenAI works on mitigations. 😬

I had to sign a form with a date field but wasn't sure if I had to use "mm/dd/yyyy" or "dd/mm/yyyy" since it's going to the UK. Rather than look it up I just waited until today so it wouldn't matter.

Vizio and Walmart are still scanning the HDMI port and collecting data on what you’re watching. But by making certain decisions during the setup process, you can keep the OS from even being active (and presumably gathering your viewing information), which I’ve never seen on other televisions.

They originally pirated the books didn't they? Not too mention the number of open source projects whose licenses they violate. It's okay for them to steal from authors to make their models, I don't see why it's a problem for other people developing models to use their systems for the same reasons.

When people say the Swalwell allegations are a distraction from Trump/Epstein (they are all part of the same bigger picture), I have to wonder why these people even supposedly care about Trump and Epstein. Do you care about sexual violence or don’t you? Why do you only care about some of it?

A powerful man sexually pursuing a young woman who works for him is oppressive. It immediately limits and reshapes her future to her detriment, whether she is physically forced into it or not. It’s coercion either way, and that is why it’s so wrong. It’s an abuse of power.
