Walking around NYC, from Brooklyn to the Village to Harlem — I see glimpses of people and events that I write about. One thing I’m excited about in my new book, TROOP MOVEMENTS (Sep 2026) — is to tell a new story of Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis, from 1940s to 1960s to 2000s, from NYC to Africa and back…
I am excited to announce that I am working on a new book with @haymarketbooks.org and @inthesetimes.com, tentatively titled "AMERICAN SACRIFICE: Working People Talk About Fighting for Their Lives—and Our Future—in America's Sacrifice Zones"...

Last year, I learned about an artist/performer named Valaida Snow (1900-1956). She was a jazz performer who played with major bands of the 20s & 30s. She played a bunch of instruments and toured extensively across the world. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valaida...

IMO, the Times too often centers some stories around Trump’s putative emotions (he’s “furious”) and frequently frames other articles on the basis of what Trump said (“he describes”). But in this lede Tyler Pager does both.
As an American history professor, I regularly read new books, articles, and dissertations, and also evaluate unpublished manuscripts for journals and book publishers. I would not categorize the recent and emerging historiography in the binary way that Ezra Klein does.
Every year around Pride, people mark 1960s events — which unleashed a new era of gender and sexual politics. In my book TROOP MOVEMENTS — I highlight 1940s origins of 1960s cross-issue movements. WW2 war-work encounters, and anti-fascist visions, set the stage… www.pennpress.org/978151282990...
