The Soviet Union also crashed a few spacecraft there in the past. SpaceX is just practicing what their lunar landers will do; since I lived and watched NASA land spacecraft on the Moon during the 1960s and into the early 1970s, that's an educated assumption on my part—in my humble opinion! ;-)
