I thoroughly enjoyed getting Jack's perspective on Zoigl for my article for @pelliclemag.com earlier this year. I mean, how many other people can boast having visited more than 4000 drinking establishments across Europe? He def has a few points of comparison. 🍻🍻

I'm delighted to share an interview I did with Franz aka @tempestinatankard.bsky.social He has collected thoughts and insights from various contacts on the appeal of the Zoiglstube 🇩🇪🍻 I defy you to read this and not want to book the next flight out there 👍 tempestinatankard.com/2026/10/14/w...

Beer gardens. I can't get enough of these leafy oases. And with the mercury rising just about everywhere in the northern hemisphere, these beer spots are as important as ever. What are some of your favourite beer gardens or favourite places for an al fresco beer?

Beer and hiking: two great things that go even better together. Add in the sublime scenery of Germany's Alps, and you have a match made in the heavens. In this post I talk about Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the trip up the Zugspitze, Germany's tallest peak. tempestinatankard.com/2026/06/11/g...

If you're a fan of Munich beer gardens, chances are you've visited places like the Augustiner-Keller and Hirschgarten. But what about some of the city's smaller beer gardens? Bienenheim (the home of the bees!) is in the woods of western Munich. tempestinatankard.com/2026/06/01/o...

Of Beer, Beehives, and the Bienenheim (Munich Beer Garden Sketches) • A Tempest in a Tankard

The Bienenheim beer garden in the western woods of Munich is unique. Beehives surround this former site of the Aubing beekeepers association.

Been a minute since I last posted anything. Blame it on British Columbia, where I've been on holidays for the past while. Anyway, today: Brno!!! Brno is one of the most underrated beer towns I can think of. Read on for places to slake your thirst. 🍻🍻 tempestinatankard.com/2026/05/14/t...

Tales of Beer Towns Underrated: Brno in the Czech Republic • A Tempest in a Tankard

Brno's pubs rival those of Prague. But unlike many other Czech cities and towns, it’s not dominated by one or two brewing behemoths.

Nice dinner a few nights back with grilled shrimp in a coconut sauce with garlic and Aleppo pepper, purple grits from Anson Mills, and a carrot salad with herbs from our garden. Dessert: Sticky rice with coconut milk and peaches. And the beer: a stellar 2023 Abrikoos from De Cam in Flanders.
