Ted Underwood@tedunderwood.com · 2w agoWhile the hacking story is fun, I do worry it will play into "protect us from scary unregulated thinking." It's important that this story gets told in a way that highlights the gap between an attacker without guardrails, and HF defense—hamstrung by guardrails.
I'm getting involved with two related projects with the acronyms TCP (no, not that one) and SPC, so of course I've been accidentally invoking Secure Contain Protect all week. God help me if that's a Jira project slug too ...

it feels like the next step is continuous models built for thinking over time as humans do, instead of one-shot episodic like current llms do which will need careful thinking to rework token caches and constrain model drift anyone seen interesting work in that direction?
one thing that not many people talk about is how a lot of senior/staff engineers don't know or care how prompt caching works, and are using some customized harness or memory adapter setup that busts the entire cache almost every turn

One thing I did notice from my Fable cowriting test is that a long loop with vague instructions can result in a failure mode of self referential ideas and parenthesis abuse. Results are recoverable, but I now fairly firmly believe that a massive context window is a net negative in many use cases.
Returning to the office after having gone WFH and quasi-poaster feral, and relearning how to wear pants, and use punctuation and capitalization, like Tarzan rejoining English culture.

Mechanical Turk was a mainstay of social & survey research through the 2010s, as it allowed you to quickly buy access to many representative humans. It was pretty good at it, until LLMs came along and everyone started using AI
