To clarify, this isn't a subtweet. But it is the #1 mistake I see authors across genres make. It's hard. You're in charge of every single word until you hand it over to your publisher. But for the business side of publication to go well, authors must RELEASE.
#1 thing that sabotages an author's publicity is the need to take control. Unless you have pro marketing experience, TRUST YOUR TEAM. Your publisher & PR rep want to drive sales as much as you do. But they can't if you micromanage. It's hard when your book is your baby, but you must let them work.

The sort of review such a serious novel deserves. Heavyweight comparisons (Barthelme, Pynchon, Chandler, Philip K. Dick and Dickens) are all justified. One of the novels of the decade.

As an author of books and of book reviews this is absolutely true. I really worry about what it does to intellectual life longer term not to have a public that cares to engage with long form prose - whether fiction or non fiction. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/27/b...

I continue to be amazed at the number of authors who confuse book publicity with being an agent. An agent helps you place your book with a publisher. A publicist helps publicize it after it's been slated for publication.
