My favorite Instagram spam comment about my book: "A Southern Gothic mystery with friendship turning into something darker? That sounds intriguing. 📖 Have you read the book yourself?" Yeah, a$$h0le, I wrote the damn book, I've read it.

I’m surprised by how little attention this case has gotten. Even I didn’t really register it for a while. This entire family of three permanent residents were summarily detained without even the option of bond, all as collective punishment for one one of them being the son of an Iranian official
Today in @thenation.com: a harrowing piece written from inside the Dilley ICE detention center by Maryam Tahmasebi, a green card holder who's been locked up along with her husband and son for months despite none of them committing any crime. www.thenation.com/article/soci...
Personally, I’m grateful for the “vats” of vaccines I received as a child. 🤗
"In this poetry reading and conversation, Chloe Yelena Miller and Elizabeth Hazen, two DMV poets who write about motherhood and aging among other topics, will discuss not just writing and poetry, but also how loss and struggle can lead to hope."
Save the date! Elizabeth Hazen and I will be reading from and discussing our new books at Kramers! Wednesday, Sept. 23, 7 - 8:30 pm www.kramers.com/events/58662...

DC’s weather today is giving “sobbing because my favorite vegan bakery’s closing day is today” vibes. Devastated, but I paid my respects with $60 worth of vegan pastries. RIP Sticky Fingers. Your cupcakes were good but your almond croissants changed my life.
Reupping this because a reader told me she purchased TWO copies via the sale (one for herself, and one as a holiday gift) and it made my day. 💜💜💜
If Amazon is your thing, the hardcover gothic horror / suspense debut novel is only $5.50 over there right now. (Paperback comes out next week!)

I loved this unsettling, slippery novel and appreciate Necessary Foction and @dianejosefowicz.bsky.social giving me space to write about it. David Lynch fans, this book is for you.

Today the Gen Z cashier at Trader Joe’s looked at my Alanis Morrisette concert tee and said: “Cool shirt. Is she an actress or something?” And I died a little inside.
I’ve had horrible tooth pain for four weeks now. Today I *finally* got relief, and it’s amazing how much my mood and focus have improved. I’m not curled up in pain, compress squeezed to my cheek. Anyway, this is a post about how dental care should be universal and free to all (healthcare, too).

PSA from your friendly neighborhood bookseller: a lot of bookstores are currently finalizing their big Fall '26 orders, so now would be a great time to preorder any new releases coming out in September - December with them. An example from this past week:
Ummmmmm I got to be on Anne Helen Petersen’s Culture Study podcast and it was really cool. You should listen.
I have been waiting MONTHS to tell everyone that I got to be on an episode of the Culture Study podcast! It was an honor talking to Millennial writer icon Anne Helen Petersen and answering your questions about post-death logistics! Listen now wherever you get your podcasts. #podcast #deathpositive
I’m just gonna keep telling myself that one day, I’ll be invited as a presenting author to the National Book Festival. ✨ One day. ✨
DC is giving major Widow’s Bay vibes this morning with this intense fog.
A beacon in trying times, thank you.
Happy Fourth of July.
More summer reading recs from me because I’ve read 32 books so far this year and can’t stop myself. I recommend an antidote to the America 250 happenings, a Summerween classic, and a heartfelt book set during the Satanic panic. open.substack.com/pub/laceyndu...
