Throughout history, persecuting scientists for saving lives is a frightening marker for the collapse of a society.

The OMB Proposal will change American science from a globally collaborative, evidence-based enterprise into one based on political control and isolation. We need MoCs to permanently Revoke the Rule. Contact yours at the link: zurl.co/RWrqE #StandUpForScience #Vought #Science #SaveScience#Trump
A scientist who just lost her grant cuts straight to the heart of it: “Requiring that NIH only fund work leading directly to a drug or other biomedical intervention… would rule out much basic research funded by the agency.” It’s pathetic & harmful to limit our understanding of health like this

Congrats @abdulelsayed.bsky.social! If he wins in November, he will be the first Senate member with an advanced public health degree, which we so desperately need right now!
Money out of politics. Money in your pocket. Medicare for All. Michigan... We won. I am so proud to be your Democratic nominee for US Senate. Let's win in November.

New: In about 10 minutes the Senate should start an initial vote on a continuing resolution. The CR contains a provision that would temporarily (but completely) block OMB's proposal to overhaul federal grants. Our story on that Senate measure and some of the pushback which lead to it:

If you deny that COVID pushed our hospitals to the limit, vaccines work, and healthcare workers are heroes, you should not be allowed to hold public office, let alone lead a health agency.

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play
I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.
Please stop saying “lockdowns.” There were never true lockdowns in the US, and it fuels far right narratives to repeat this inaccurate statement. You can say closures, you can say restrictions, or better, you can say public health measures which saved many lives.
People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.
Wow. 11 polar icebreakers cost more than our entire global Ebola response in 2014. $7 billion could be saving millions of lives today.
President Trump decided to buy 11 polar icebreakers, worth almost $7 billion, after a game of golf with Finland’s president. The question, experts say, is how many the U.S. really needs. nyti.ms/4hK355K
