In summary: The broligarchs' agenda, supported by Trump, means an end to US democratic traditions & global econ/political leadership. Broligarchs want to create this power vacuum so they can step into it themselves, the better to rule the rest of us. For more, see @carolecadwalla.bsky.social
C. Broligarchy is a global political project (cont.). All the broligarchs are pushing Trump to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve, which would make them much richer & more powerful, but weaken the US dollar: the world's reserve currency. This would undermine, if not destroy, US econ & pol power.
C. Broligarchy is a global political project (cont.). This is the significance of Musk sitting in on the President-elect’s calls with at least 3 heads of foreign states since last week--Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic & Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan--plus mtg w/Iran ystdy.
C. Broligarchy is a global political project. While the broligarchs have big plans for the US government—like the DOGE project by Musk & fellow broligarch Vivek Ramaswamy to restructure & cut the budgets of Federal agencies”—states are essentially playthings to them & their outlook is borderless.
B. Women out of the workforce and civic life (cont.). Broligarchs aren't for meritocracy, but for the opposite. That's what it means to eliminate 50% of competition for jobs & public office by demoting women to reproductive & domestic servitude. For more, see the work of @ruthbenghiat.bsky.social
B. Women out of the workforce and civic life (cont.). Thiel’s Stanford classmate & later co-author, broligarch David Sacks, has repeatedly published his view that women’s rape accusations are often false & reflect “nothing more than belated regret.” Broligarchs don't think laws should protect women.
B. Women out of the workforce and civic life (cont.). Thiel funds a women's magazine (Evie) that does for birth control what RFKJr does for vaccines: sows conspiracy theories to persuade people to stop using them. Like Musk, he's obsessed with getting (mostly white) women to have more babies.
We're Concerned: Billionaire Peter Thiel Backs Controversial Magazine's Cycle-Tracking App
Peter Thiel, billionaire entrepreneur and top campaign donor has decided to back a "femtech" app called 28, created by the divisive Evie Magazine.

A. Representation without taxation (cont.) Crypto is the financial engine of this effort to transcend the nation-state system & create new transnational empires, ruled by the broligarchs, in which we are (largely unaware) the colonized. For more on this, see the work of @molly.wiki
A. Representation without taxation (cont.). Broligarchs fund efforts to create tax-free libertarian utopias where they rule without courts, police or even the window dressing of democracy. Thiel & Andreesen are major backers of such projects globally. For more, see the work of @gilduran.bsky.social
A. Representation without taxation. They expect--& are getting from Trump--authority to shape the US government & its policies, both foreign & domestic, without paying their fair share. Broligarchs routinely pay no tax, or effective tax rates of ~1-3%. americansfortaxfairness.org/wp-content/u...

6. Is this just an American thing? No. Broligarchs, though many are based in the Silicon Valley, aren't just Americans. Some are from other countries, some live outside the US. They're part of the billionaire elite I've examined since 2007. Based on that, we can expect 3 things from broligarchy.
5. What's their vision? Many broligarchs were deeply influenced by what VC Reid Hoffman, a friend of Thiel’s since college & a co-founder of PayPal with Musk, calls the “grandiose, utopian” worldviews of SciFi fantasy. These visions are fundamentally anti-government, authoritarian & transnational.
4. What's new? Unlike the oligarchs of old, broligarchs aren't just looking for tax cuts and lighter regulations; they largely solved those problems. Broligarchs have a global political vision, and it’s set on a collision course with American democracy and American leadership on the world stage.
3. Aren't those just oligarchs? No. Ofc the wealthy have for generations had privileged access to US Presidents & some have even been appointed to high-ranking positions in the federal government. For the past 40 yrs, most Secretaries of the Treasury have been plucked from offices on Wall Street.
2. What's the Broligarchy*? It means rule by unelected male billionaires, primarily from the technology and finance sectors, who are openly opposed to major elements of the American democratic tradition. * The term has circulated on Twitter since at least 2016; there's no clear originator afaik.
Listen, Broligarchy is not some cute synonym for oligarchy. It's genuinely different & WAY more dangerous. I'm a sociologist who's been studying the ultra-rich globally for 17 yrs, entering their world as an offshore wealth mgr. Published 2 books abt them. 🧵Broligarchs are distinct in 3 ways:
There’s a sort of Trump apologist, a relatively small but loud subset, who probably don’t realize or intend to be, but are so attached to a previous hyperbolic claim that they deny anything important changed. -US was already an oligarchy -US was already fascist -Biden gave Israel a blank check -Etc
This incredible woman has more courage than any Republican member of Congress. Representative-Elect Sarah McBride responds to the pathetic transgender bathroom ban just announced by the coward Mike Johnson.
