Did a bunch of sketching of notes today. This hobo game is coming together. Gonna do some more research (ie, watch YouTube videos and read archival stuff, nothing heavy) to get a loose overview, and then it's on to phase 2: buy a notebook dedicated to the topic.
Falling down a research rabbit hole. Currently fixated on hoovervilles of the 1930s. Did not know that the largest was in St Louis - I only really knew about the one in central park. A Hooverville, by the way, was a makeshift city for basically squatters during the depression.
Had a dream last night about this hobo game I can't get out of my head. Woke up and wrote down my notes, and for once, they weren't absolute bollocks when I read them in the morning. The short of it is, a life path character creation system, and 24 broad skills, like "fix" and "crime".
Buncha MAGAts are gonna go to NYC, cause crimes, and get arrested, all to own the libs.
Meanwhile, In NYC.......👏🏻
Doing some reading on the history of Hobos, as one does, to figure out the best era to set a game in.
Oh man, just found this generator for buying and selling trade goods - the most onerous part of Traveller. Game Changer! ratherbegaming.net/apps/travell...

New Pinned Message: How! I'm Dave Percival (he/him). I mostly post about TTRPGs like Traveller and Dungeon Crawl Classics, but I also talk about cooking and hockey. Super lefty cishet dude. I block alt-right chuds, AI dweebs, and Pro Genocide scumbags. 🇨🇦
It’s important to understand that when 1.2 million Americans are dying from a disease, any government action is excessive and tyrannical, but if a dozen trans women want to play soccer no government action can go far enough
Posted on a local community board on Facebook, but sharing here because it's a funny story that happened the other day.
Wrote down a list for this Hobo RPG that stick in my head: THREATS vampires Werewolves the Mothman Devil that buys your soul (a la Robert Johnson) Bootleggers Mummies "The Gentlemen" JAZZ MUSIC
Since you're a hobo, you have a "money" stat. It begins at "none", and can improve to "a bit", "some", and, if you're lucky "not poor". On the downside, you lose money a lot, and can have negative stats like "I owe a bit", "I owe a lot", and even "well, this is bad"
Every town you roll for whats going on with local law enforcement (and what complications are in store), another roll for what the job opportunities are, and a third roll for what the local hobo camp is. And then an adventure hook, and rumors of what's going on "further down the line"

Traveller, but instead of flying from star system to star system, you're a hobo in 1912, taking a train from Podunk town to Podunk town.

Just bought a pasta maker, a meat grinder, and everything I need to make the world's best lasagna. I'm making three at once. Everything from scratch. Bought all the ingredients, but now I've got executive disfunction because I don't wanna make homemade ricotta, for some reason.
My daughter just discovered Spyro the Dragon on Xbox, and had decided he's the coolest thing ever.

Hey if you are going to Gen Con, do me a favor and make sure you check out the new rules-light horror TTRPG I'm edit lead on: 13 Omens! We put together a preview rulebook and adventure for the show, which we're not selling anywhere else. Find it at the Paizo booth.
Got around to placing the order. This book is... Not what I expected at all. It's a series of formulas for figuring out things like gravitational pull, or what a planets orbit looks like. Not much of it is actually game able. Gonna give it a read, but at the moment, It's looking like a dud.
Ok. Putting together my next order from Mongoose today. I've settled on "The World Builders Guidebook" as my main purchase, but I want some Journal of the Travellers Aid Society books to round it out. What are some of your favourites? Bonus points if they have an adventure.
You know, I wouldn't be surprised to find automats making a big comeback in the 2030s. Just a guy in the kitchen, and a security guard in the front.
Here’s a piping hot take: If your chain of food establishments is going to go entirely kiosk-based ordering, thereby eliminating the jobs of people who take orders, then it’s some serious bullshit to make the kitchen employees yell “Hi, welcome in!” to every customer.
Dumb world building from my #Traveller campaign: My wife's PC has a cat. Except, it's not a cat. It is the same size as a cat, same fur, meow, purr, claws - everything. It looks exactly like a cat, but is genetically different. A geneticist found this out, and named the species "Schrodingers".
There but for the grace of the fates go I. Most creative pursuits pay poorly. Most creators create because we're driven to do so & because we want to entertain and create enjoyment. But combine that with a mercenary, non-rights-based healthcare system in the US & creators can't afford wellness.

Not sure how I feel about this Blade Runner tv series. The OG film is my favorite piece of media, bar none. And the sequel was surprisingly good. I'll give the show the benefit of the doubt, but the premise bothers me for some reason.
I like to invent food and recipes for my rpg sessions, and today the PCs had a cocktail shot named after the acidic storms that wrack the planet below. So I wrote up a recipe and sent it to my players. It's based off a Prairie Fire, and is probably just as terrible.
Had a fun Traveller session today, where the players dipped their toes into the dangerous Islent system. They ran from ship-jackers (twice!) and then had a spaceship chop-shop weld stolen weapons systems on their far trader. Now they have a rough mission ahead of them...
Bit of trivia for y'all - what is the world's least spoken language, that ALSO has over ten million people who use it daily?
My buddy helped me flesh out the seven moon gangs for my traveller session tomorrow. Well start with the Turnbull ACs, taken from The Warriors. Everyone in the gang is shaven bald and tough, and they operate out of souped-up but also janky ship's boats.
