Back to the grind - trying to figure out what games work from other PC98 images, and then compiling them all into a final image. Honestly, I just want to be done and move on to testing other systems for VCFMW. Also really want to work on the extra cool items for my gacha machine.

Obsolete and obscure hardware nerd. Music geek. Soldering = Zen. Ask me about the Casio Loopy and why it's actually an amazing piece of tech. 📺
After quite a bit of fighting with this PC-9821Xa12, I finally was able to play a game in glorious FM sound. Still have a bit of wrap up work to do, but definitely happy everything's working!
This little guy was taped on a ridge under the power supply. Had to pull most of the computer apart to get to it. 0.11 V It's getting replaced and relocated to a more accessible location in the morning.
Totally normal PC-9821 MS-DOS 6.20 floppy installer. 👻 Seriously though, what the hell possessed my system?
It's the small things that make me smile. Now I have to decide between capturing an image of what's on this drive and then installing software manually to it, or grabbing a premade image.

This makes me so happy. LoopyDOOM: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDe0... I am enjoying the soundtrack a ton. Should I load up a copy of this for VCFMW Friday Night?

There’s a lot of NEC computers on this blog, but tons of Japanese companies made great machines. Fujitsu, for instance, built a whole spectrum of computers. You’ve seen three of their 6809 machines in...

I guess this Monday will have to be a Modular DIY Kit Building Day. (I'm pretty sure I have more kits somewhere around here)

Some of the best tips I've gotten on cleaning moldy floppy disks, and understanding which "junk" listings are actually worth my time have come from @krugman.net. My wallet appreciates the $ savings.
Encouraged by the positive feedback I got on the idea, I've now taken the plunge and started a cheeky little Patreon. The "extra content" available there will focus on the collecting and buying side of things. All proceeds go to rebuying rare PC98 hentais that die on me during the dumping process 😹

We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA. Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

related to my last repost: my metric for how successful a console should be is entirely based on how cute the logo is. because of this, the best consoles are the 3DO, Apple Pippin and Casio Loopy

I may be sore, bruised, and without much of a voice, but VCFMW was a lot of fun. Met so many people and was able to talk about so many different Japanese systems that I think it was worth it. And surprisingly I did not walk away with another computer 😂
I forgot to post up my VCFMW table setup yesterday. There were so many lovely folks to chat with and share my love of these systems with. The lead-up work for conventions is so stressful, but seeing so many folks connect with systems from Japan makes it all worthwhile.
